Default custom timing curve

Wanting to put a custom timing curve in my car its drag race only so trying to get the most out of it. looking for any suggestions

engine spec.
iron block 5.7 (5.3 punched out)
232/238 .620/.612 112+3
ported 853 heads with 54cc combustion chambers
holley 780 carb
best guess on compression is 12.5-13.0

This is just a guess, so your is probably as good as mine. With your compression, I wouldn't think you would require a ton of lead and with a 5.7 running a cam that size, I would suspect peak torque would be in the 5000-5200 rpm range. As a starting point ,I would do 30* by 1200 rpms and carry that to around 4900, then taper down to 27* by 5000. Carry 27* to 5300, then taper back up to 30* by 5400 and carry 30* to the red line.
I think that curve is pretty close to where you need to be. Try that and add 2* with the same curve dip and see if you gain or loose. Experiment from there to find best MPH. good luck!

thanks for the advice that sounds pretty close the what the timing was with the fuel injection on it. i think max timing was 29 with a similar dip.

what plugs are you guys running. i got a 6lt iron block with 12.5:1 compression running the ohio mile. looking for plug cooler than NGKbr7ef with taper seat.

You should read through the combos in the carb database sticky in this section.

Thanks, there is plenty of good info there.

will a non resisted plug work ok with stock coils?

A lot of guys are running the B8Es plugs with no problems. They are non resistors.
