Default Think I wiped out my front crank seal?

So I shredded a belt, and before I could park I think a piece of the belt wrapped around the crank pulley, and I saw some oil. Is it likely that I wiped out that seal in the timing cover? Is it hard to change? I'd be doing it with hand tools in my driveway....

water pump and crank pulley need to come off to unbolt the timing cover to change out the seal..

as long as you have some breaker bars and the pulley removal/install tool it shouldnt be too much hassle.

edit: if you do end up doing it.. get some new gaskets as well (WP, Timing cover)

That sucks man, sorry. Personally id just watch it and see if it leaks. if it does, fix.

You got a pully puller and a new bolt? I just followed the instructions on ls1howto and it seemed to work fine. No leaks anyway.

Why did the belt shred? Shitty belt? I never buy the ones with the 30 minute warranty...they never last.

I had a semi tire get sucked up under my c5 and it hit my pulley and caused my front seal to leak. You have to take the water pump off and your bellow/lid and you should be able to get to it easy. It's not a big deal. It's an all day job on the c5 though :/

No it does not, neither does the water pump.
remove the damper and the seal will pop out with a screw driver.
Fresh motor oil on the new seal and you can push the new one
in with your fingers. Dorman sells a cover seal kit the only place
I've found the seal by it's self is the dealer

If you can, something's fucked up. It won't stay in if you're able to just push it in, and it won't seal around the outside of it, against the cover.

I have the radiator out and there's plenty of room. Hopefully I don't have to pull the timing cover? I have a new seal.

I personally would, gives you a chance to inspect your timing set for the price of what, 8 more bolts? Might as well.

It was all literally just done. Cam swap was only like 2000 miles ago. If I could get away with leavin it on, and just getting the new seal on, that'd be awesome. Especially since no one is home tomorrow and I have no car for extra gaskets and whatnot.
