Default Help! Turbo Pick

Ok, just to start off yes I have tried searching.

I am currently building a 1995 Z28 that I am swapping a 4.8 truck engine out of a 2000 silverado. The engine is in amazing shape despite the 270k kms on it. I am using an ls1 intake, ls6 valve springs and stock bottom. Wanting to run a single turbo but I would consider running twins. I was planning on doing 2.5" pipes into the merge into an ebay gt45. But after doing some more research I'm not sure how fast this turbo would spool on the little 4.8. Does anyone have an educated guess on when this turbo would spool?

I'm shooting for around 450rwhp and around the same amount of torque. But because its a daily driver I want the turbo to come on strong down low (around 2300rpm) and pull to 6500-7000rpm. Is there a turbo out there that could do this for cheap. And would the 2.5" hotside be too big? Aswell as a 2.5" coldside?
Thanks, Roger

A gt45 should respond very well down low.

You could run 2.25" crossover pipes or hell even 2" pipes to help it spool earlier. Keep the coldside to 3"

Yeah I used 2.5 crossover and I probably loss some spool time there also. For no more power goal than that id use 2" crossover lol.

a TC78 would be a good affordable choice as well. It will spool quick and since you are SBE you won't choke the turbo by pushing more boost.

+1 quick spool is worth it's weight in gold. Big turbo's bite for daily driving.

Yeah but if he's only pushing modest boost levels on a SBE then I'd think quick response would be more important since he will probably only push 8psi

Thanks a lot guys. I'll stick with the gt45 and run a 2.25" merge to get a better spool but still have a little more pipe if I wanna turn up the power later on. I'll also run the 3" cold side. Thanks again guys.
