Default Cant seem to build oil pressure over 45 when hot, no matter what oil used

So I have tried everything from 30 to 50 weight oil and I definetly notice a difference in oil pressure at lower rpms and idle my a few psi depending on whcih one I use, when the car is cold it runs around 60psi at idle, but once it warms up the pressure drops lower than what I would consider nomal also the oil pressure never climbes after 3k its at 45psi at 3k and then stays there all the way to 6600.

I changed the oil today and noticed quit a bit of VERY FINE Graphite looking metal shavings on the magnet of the oil pan. didnt look like there was any bearing material on the oil.

what do you guys think? oil pump maybe going out? I am at a loss here, the engine is not making any abnormal noise or knock. Metal did go threw the oil pump last year when I lost a cam and lifters.

yes I had to replace a am and lifters, metal has gone threw the engine, but there is no bearing material from what I can see, the metal that I still get comming out is a fine pasty stuff looks almost like graphite lube, no knocks or unusual noises.

Taking it apart is the only way to see what is going on. Thicker oil is never the answer.

The grey material is from the rigs seating not bearing material. It is not relevent to your pressure

nope never messed with oil pump ever, almost everyone else I have talking to are saynig 45psi is normal, maybe it is but I just dont like the PRESSURE CHANGE from where the engine use to be. it dosnt get below 20, but wont go over 45 like it use to, and cold it still sits over 60. when I first got it the thing would idle at over 50psi and shoot up to 80psi at 6600, engine has 15k on it so I would think it was broke in a long time ago, so I cant see still getting ring material down in the pan

For what it's worth, I see the exact same thing on my LS3 427 and I'm running a Melling 10296 high volume, high pressure oil pump.

What main bearings and clearances did you build it with?

Didnt know they were coated, Thx

Regaurdless, w the pump all together I reached and grabbed the free floating rotor gear and it had all kinds of slob in it, brand new pump ya could of used for a cowbell, NOT a Oil Pump for a 6-7k Rpm 500Hp motor!!!

I think that you may be able to put a oil pump primer on it and that will push a consistant oil pressure, so if it is your oil pump or "O" ring in your oil pump you would definitely be able to see the problem, without taking anything apart. Thats how I found out my oil pump had failed completely.

Did anything ever come of this? I'm having similar problem with my spdc 416 with 4k miles.

Factory 01 camaro gauge
(Cold) idle 60, cruising 80
(Hot) idle 30-35, wot 55-60

Autometer electronic oil pressure gauge
(Cold) idle 40, cruising 45
(Hot) idle 20, wot 40-45

Seems to be a 20 psi difference between my factory Oil pressure gauge (new opsu) and autometer gauge. I've spoke with several people and they said factory gauge usually reads lower so I'm at a loss.

The autometer sensor is mounted above the oil filter. Do I just have a faulty autometer sensor?
