Exclamation Does anyone have to pay to get their PCMs unlocked?

Soo for a while now, here in the Houston area, there has been alot of big discussions, arguments and debates about tuners locking their customers pcms. I understand that some tuners lock pcms to keep their work from being copied by other tuners and I know thats a smart thing to do IMO. On the other hand you have the customer that gets mad because his tuner locked his PMC and he he (the customer) has to pay to get it unlocked, is that a reasonable thing to do when all he has to do is unlock it? I know the tuner has to remove or change his work for the other tuner not to see it, im guessing thats where the tuner charges correct? For changing the tune or simply leaving the factory tune as it was before any tune that was done.

Alot of people and their tuners have been having these issues for unlocking a PCM which doesnt take long to unlock under a fee.

What do you guys think about this topic?
I would like to hear from both POVs.

Oh and dont fight! Not my intentions

Just ask beforehand, and if they lock it then tell them
to suck a pimply dick. It's your property and work-for-hire,
you do not need to accept somebody else "owning" your
PCM or the data in it.

We dont lock pcm's and are against it. I have never heard a valid reason to lock a tune yet. Heard lots of excuses but nothing valid IMO.

They have a very valid reason to lock them, to prevent anybody to find out that they are HACK's.
I have gotten several lock tunes unlocked and every one of them was a butcher job in one way or another. If a tuner locks a tune, the only person they hurt is their custumer. If another tuner want to see their work they can use one of the ssed / key finders to unlock it, even though it might take several days or they could just lift the chip and read it with a Wilhem programmer or one of several other devices on the market

Yep, I wont but I could name all the tuners in Texas that lock pcms. 99% of the time the customer dont even know. We keep pcm's in stock just for that reason because most of the time the customer finds out when we try to tune it. Its a bad deal for them all the way around. They are not happy with their current tuner and they try to go to a new one only to find to out they have to buy another pcm or try to get old tuner to unlock it. Even seen them mail pcm back to old tuner and pay shipping both ways only to get locked pcm back.

I know its a old thread but I haven't heard soo much on this lately around Houston. I guess these shops started losing business due to that lol
