Default Cam for m6 with 4.10s (Fm11, X1....)

I'm trying to decide on a cam for my 2000 TA WS6 (m6). This car is a daily driver and only sees the track once in a while. My current mods are slp longtube headers, borla cat-back, and 4.10 gears. I am also planning on getting heads, maybe PP stage 2 ls6 or MTI 2E (any suggestions), LS6 intake manifold, and a tune when i'm done. I have done some research and have seen that the TR224 is a great street cam. I was looking for something a little more aggressive and noticed that many people have upgraded from the TR224 to a FM11, X1 cam, or TSP 231/237.

I was looking for a cam that would take advantage of the 4.10s. I don't particularly want to turn the motor past 6500 rpm (a peak around 6000-6500 is preferable). I know bigger is not always better, but i've heard that FM11, X1, and 231/237 are moderate size cams that dont compromise street driveability. What are the full specs on the FM11 cam (228/230.....?). Would any of these cams suit my setup. I dont have to pass the sniffer test and i wanted a more aggressive/rougher idle, so i wasnt sure what kind of lobe separation to look for (112?). My car is pretty mild idling right now and i would like an idle that would turn a few heads.

Any other cams that would suit my setup? My goal is getting around 430rwhp and 410rwtq, do u think that is realistic with any of these cams, a set of heads, my current mods, and a tune?

f1 is a great cam with 4.11's .591/.569 230/226 112, and the m2 is also an excellent choice with 4.11's The F1 did me right, but just isn't agressive enough for my new setup

my F11 on 112 peaks at 6250. 4.1 or 4.30 gears are wha it wants so that wuld fit your bill!

I have a cam similar to the TSP 213/237 112 LSA. I made well over 430 RWHP and 410 RWTQ with a Moser 12 bolt and 4.10 gears. It is not bad to drive unless you are stuck in stop and go traffic. At that point the cam and the SPEC III clutch are not that fun to drive. The idle is rough and lopey but not bad. I Idle at 800 RPM without issue. I still get 26MPG on the highway at 75-80 MPH steady speed.

All in all this is a good combination.

Cam is pretty flat from 6200 - 6800 TQ is strong from 3K - 6K. I plan to shift at the track around 6600.

On the street it is really strong from 2500 through redline. Kind of nice to see the low trac light in 4th gear.

TSP 231/237 will lope hard. It will also pull further up top more than you currently want to wind your motor out to. The hp peak on my setup is pretty flat from 6250 to 6900 rpm limiter. As mentioned above, you do have to wait 'till 2500 rpms for things to wake up.
The X1 is a great cam too.
The Futrals our putting down great numbers.
You can't go wrong with any of them.

I have the X1 with all the boltons and 4:11 gears.. It still needs some tuning but its an EXTREMELY flat Tq curve and if you dont watch the tach youll hit 7200 before you know it

< done it a few times)

How is the X1 for street racing? Does it have a lot of torque down low? And does it have a rough idle ?

I am very interested in this threat, because it sounds like Jimmy's goals are IDENTICAL to mine.

Thanks,

Jim

SS rally red........what's the power band like with that cam, where does your hp and tq peak (how high do u spin the motor). Do u still have plenty of tq down low? What's the full specs on the cam (228/230....)? Sorry for the abundant questions.

Thanks, Jimmy

I shift a 6500 and and peak is slightly below that, the area under the curve is outstanding, I have a stock clutch and 10 bolt with 4.10's and nothing but BMR LCA's and the only time at the track after cam install I could only cut 2.0 60ft's on 315 Nitto's(cut 1.9 60ft with the stock F1's at the same track) my best time was 12.465 @ 117.00 pretty consistant all day. I need a decent 60ft.

Cam specked out at 228/230-575-597 -112 +4.

I am running the FM11 and TEA heads. As far as dyno numbers, right now I would rather not discuss them. Something fishy is happening with my car. Other then that, man talk about a difference from just swapping out my old 224/224 for the FM11. I am working on some issues with my car and expect it to be wonderful after it is all lined out. (None to do with the cam IMO)

On a side note and not to hijack your thread. I have contacted both FMS (Allan) and TEA (Brian) about the issues with my car. All I can say is BOTH have been wonderful to deal with. I would strongly suggest giving Allan a call and he can set you up with what you want. My car now with a tune drives really great. In fact, its street manners are better then my old 224. The FM11 specs are 228/230 581/591 112 or 114

Sounds like the FM11 is what i am looking for. I wanted a cam with a lot of torque too in addition to the extra hp. I hear the FM11 is very street driveable. Now i just got to decide if the heads are worth the extra $1500-2000 for 30 or so extra hp???

You're looking at about a 30hp gain. I'd go with the TEA 5.3 Stg 1.5s with a hand finish.
