I have a ls1 with forged probe pistons, eagle rods, arp hardware, stock crank, Mls head gaskets, slightly higher than stock compression and 227/232 cam.

I know the motor should handle a pretty healthy shot, but I'm not sure what piston rings were used or how they were gapped. Assuming the rings are cheaper and not gapped, what's a safe shot?

i'd say 200, people put 200 to SBE's all the time you have a good bottom end. On the other hand you have a lot more to lose than a guy with a stock bottom end.

200 to be safe, 250 if tuned correctly... all comes down to how much you trust your tuner lol

I have a lot of faith/trust in my tuner. Would 200 be safe even if the rings are not gapped for nitrous. I was really thinking like 150 but didn't know if that would be to big.

Stock rings aren't gapped for nitrous and there are guys running over 200 on stock bottom ends. You should be able to run 150 all day but as said earlier in the thread you have more to lose than the stock bottom end guys. I cant give you a concrete number as to what horsepower level to stop at without knowing ring gap.

Why don't you know what the rings are gapped at? I must guess you bought the bottom end?

I would open it up and find out if you are looking to run fast. There is no reason to have that killer bottom end and run a 150 shot!!!

I bought the car with the motor already built. That's why I'm not sure how the are gapped. I would love to spray 200-250, but it's not exactly easy to check the ring gap

Like said ppl with stock bottom ends spray over a 200 hit, yes they tune it probably. So I would at least do a 200. But I have nuts or I am dumb haha.

What does a tuner have to do with it. Once its tuned for the motor on the dyno, "YOU" go and tune it at the track on the bottle.

I would't be afraid to throw 250 at that motor with no issues.

Let me ask this question while we are talking big shots. Do you plan on feeding it off the rail or getting a standalone?

I'm not sure yet. It's currently running a 255 in tank pump with ford 42 green top injectors. I have considered running a stand alone with 110 octane to make it a little safer.

I would run a standalone because it allows you to keep the motor on pump gas and use c16 on the bottle. Plus, you're not taxing the in-tank pump to do 2 jobs.

I'm new with ls stuff also I bought a racetronix kit with hot wire is it normally a 255 pump I'm running 42lb also but tapping off rail to run nitrous outlet puck but I should do stand alone to ??

Sorry if I'm beating this to death, but I never seemed to get a clear answer.

Assuming the rings are tight and not nitrous rings, what would be a safe shot using a standalone?

Since you are running the puck system I am assuming you are running a large shot and in that case, yes I would use a standalone.

I don't think you are going to get a correct answer until you find out what rings you have. If they are rings that have been gapped to the stock GM specs then I see no issue with throwing 200 at it. If they are opened more then its time to spray more. If they are gapless rings(which I haven't seen anybody use them in years) them you aprobably limited to 100-125 shot.
