Default I Think I'm Screwed

I went to check my oil today, when I tried to pull the dipstick out it seemed stuck. I gave it a firm tug and now I'm missing the last 1 1/2 inches of the dipstick. The end was bent, I suspect possibly when it was reinstalled when I had my clutch installed recently.

Anyone have any idea's how to fish the 1 1/2" piece of the dipstick out? The dipstick is only slightly magnetic and didn't come out when I drained the oil. The car has not and will not be started with this piece in the engine.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated....

3 things you can do.

1. Send a flexible magneg down the dip sit hold int the pan.
2. Send a flexible magneg in the drain plug.
3. Pull the pan.

It could also be stuck in the pickup screen and you wont get it from there unless you pull the pan.

I hasn't been started since it broke off, so I don't think it would be in the pickup screen. I have a buddy coming over with a scope to see if we can locate the piece and remove it with a magnet.

With my luck it will be stuck on the windage tray and not in the pan...

Since you have a newer C5 (two piece oil pan) try this:

The oil pan has a lower cover, Unbolt the bottom half of your oil pan and it should be right there. I had to do something similiar on a C5 that had a mini core plug in the dipstick tube, when I installed the dipstick tube it pushed the plug into the oil pan, luckily it to was a 2-piece oil pan. PM me your phone number and I can walk you through it if you need any help.

I had a buddy come over and we pulled the lower oil cover. We found the missing piece lodged behind one of the baffles. Once we figured out that we can remove the oil pan easily, it took us less than 30 minutes.

Thanks for you help!
