Default How cheap to hit 8s?

I'm not talking certs or licenses. I mean horsepower and chassis. With a $300 s10, and a $500 lm7 can it be done for around $5k? I do have e85 available and will be doing the fabrication myself. What can you guys come up with to hit this goal?

If you strip the truck down to the frame, you will.

The truck would be stripped as light as possible (not a street car). Basically running just an alternator, small fuel cell, 8.8 explorer axle, single racing seat, th400/glide, etc

I'm not looking for something that's going to last long. Even if it makes 1 8 second pass I'd be happy

What do you have right now? I'd say on the low end with you doing all the work, probably around 30k. That's the absolute low low end.

U understand you're gonna need over 1k hp to get 8's. It's not cheap. Then you need the suspension and wheels and tires to hook

even if you could do it on the cheap its probably not the safest idea, things exploding in the motor shooting everywhere isnt a pretty sight

I think it could be done for under $20K but that with a donor vehicle and some 2nd hand parts. An 8 second pass is so much more then just making the power though. You're talking 150mph and keeping it hooked and straight.

Again, I'm talkin possibilities. Is it possible? Not a street able car, safety items not in the budget. How cheap can it be done?

Lol, you don't need to make that kind of power to run 8's.

If I remember right skinnies had around $10k into his rx7 when he ran 8's, could be wrong tho.

You might get away with $5k if you bought EVERYTHING either used or from china. Its going to be hard to do though, and will take some patience to find the right prices.

You're thinking what I'm thinking haha. I would probably try to wait out for a used s480 and fab everything myself. Sheet metal dash, no power steering, small fuel cell. Really get the weight down.

I would say if you triple that number it will be close. These budget build threads make my head hurt and this is the worse one yet.

Agreed.

Plus, I hope he's got some good fab skills and a seasoned mechanic that with a lot of performance experience with these motors.

Well if it helps you sleep at night, my real build isn't budget by any means. I'm just wondering what can be done for as little as possible

Then why waste your money on this build and focus on your other build?
