Need your ideas to pinpoint this sound...(video/sound bit inside) Hey guys, I have a nasty whine coming from under the hood... Hoping someone can help me pinpoint the cause.
I went on vacation and haven't driven the car in a couple weeks. I come back home and get in it to go to work and it had a slight whine that isn't normally there. I was different than the suppercharger. When I was driving home it got much louder and now i'm afraid to drive it.
here are some facts-
-04v, 65k mi
-maggie on top
-sound is rpm related, not speed
-whine is there throughout the whole RPM band
-turning wheel does not change the pitch at all, steering seems completely unrelated
-zero coolant smell..
-no pulleys seemed to generate any odd noises
As I listen under the hood it seems like it's coming more from the throttle body area and not down lower were the PS pump or alternator is. Do you think the alternator is dying? bad pulley/bearing? should I measure the volts on the battery while it's running? Is it safe to even drive if it's the supercharger? Is there an oil port on the maggie somewhere that might be low?

Why dont you remove the supercharger belt, is the noise still there?
Remove the serp belt, is the noise still there?
Does your steering feel strange when dry steering from left to right visa versa?
Do some process of elimination.
