Default new to ls1 world. a little help plz

Im brand spankin new to ls motors and just got an lq9 out of an 05 silverado ss.

I want to go carbed of course but am having a hard time deciding what direction to go. Heres my issues

*trying to see if i need a msd 6ls box or 6ls2. (6ls say up to 2004 from what i see)
* which type of intake is better edelbrock vic jr or super vic?

* does the wiring harness 60101 come with the box or will i have to pay the $200 for the harness..

These are some of my 1st questions coning into the carbed ls world.
this project will b eventually going into my 68 4 door nova. .
A LITTLE HELP FROM ANYONE PLZ.

If the crank sensor plug is gray its a 58X (need 6012 box)....if its black it's a 24X (need 6010 box)
As for the intakes...what are your plans and whats been done to the motor

No...The wiring comes with it.

Buy the carshop motor mount adapter plates and you will beagle to have the engine in the factory location and be able to use the factory cross member ever and drive shaft...

Edelbrock performer= street torque, Vic jr= mainly strip, little street, Vic sr= all out strip

You will like the MSD 6010, bar none the easiest system in the world when combined with factory coils , about 85% that the 2005 lq9 will be gen 3 which needs the regular 6ls box (6010)...mounting on intake is easy too, it has rubber isolaters for intake (might only be in performer intake though) but you have plenty of wire with the kit to place it on the firewall, fender well, etc...

Good luck with the build and welcome to easy performance lol, you will never want an old school small block Chevy again!

I would like to build a 408 out of it. But more realistically i see myself coming across a pair of l92 heads and not sure what type of cam yet.
I like alot of the times i see these motors achieving but i kno et's take precise blueprinting so thts why i came to this site.

And thanks ^^^ post. I have a gen 1 400sbc now but i knew since the beginning of building tht motor (less than a yr ago) i wouldnt b happy till i came across an ls1 so i could carb it.

It also looks like there is an entirely seperate intake for the l92 heads should i b looking there and not at regular intakes?
And all of the msd 6010'z i search never look like they have the harness.
how much does the harness alone usually run 4?

My MSD box is where the battery would normally sit and wires reached without issue.

You will need to run the wires first and then look where the box will sit...may take a few trys ?

Yes the L92/LS3 heads use a different intake (square port)

Here is an example of the 6Ls kit. It comes with the main harness but does not come with the coil harness, you either need to use your old one or buy a new one which are not very expensive. The main harness has the majority of what you need. You may need a trans harness if its electronically controlled. What are you planning to use there?

6ls2 for 58x (on the MSD cover it reads 6LS with a very small 2 just at the top right of the S)

Make sure you check if your crank sensor is black (24) or gray (58) before you buy an MSD box

I believe i have the black sensor.
I came across a complete l92 head(minus rocker arms) for a pretty good price. So i picked tht one up. Im searching for another one under the $500 range. *does anyone kno if its uncommon to use another casting head with similar flow, or should i just wait n maybe find one @ an auto recycler or junkyard?

I found a msd 6010 kit with rectangle port carb intake on ebay for 750 so im gonna save a few weeks and pic up that to use with the l92.

With the transmission i will most likely use a th350 as a few of my dads race car friends are offering me those at a pretty price too.
*can anyone lead me in a good direction with what adapter plate or flywheel stuff i may need?

Not sure what the kit from ebay comes with but you can get the intake and the msd box from Jegs or summit for around 650-675.

Check w/ Mike F @ SKSpeed.com (sponsor on this site) for a price....I bet he'll smoke Jegs and Summit on prices
He just had a sale on the 6010 box for $275.

I really wish people would look around at prices before jumping on a "deal". No offence....we all do it .

I bought a pair of L92/LS3 heads NEW from SDPC ? with the dual 675 lift springs installed ready to bolt on/assembled (no rockers or stands) for right at about $1000 when guys were wanting $600+ for used heads (then add checking, cleaning, springs) I think it was a deal.

No offense taken
i bought my one stock newl92 head for $300. Its got spring and the valves. Im talkin 2 someone on ebay about maybe getting one tht he has 4 around $400. Im trying to take the right steps to have a nice 1st time ls1.

To the post above the previous post. Thats the price i have the l92 carb intKe and box w/harness. Not 750 right around 670 something. .

Ive been reading alot about this swap and building this engine up. Id like to run 11's(roll bar territory). Or maybe even low 12's.
Just gotta blueprint right.
