What is the sensor/plug hooked to my shifter plate?

What is the sensor/plug hooked to my shifter plate? I was changing out my shifter and whoever did it before me didn’t connect this plug back to the gear shift plate. It was just shoved down in front of it. What does this sensor do?

If your talking about the plug that clips to the front of the shifter plastic plate I believe it is for the radio unit I left mine unplugged on accident and had no power to the radio unit and plugged it back in and it came back on
