Catch can? Do you have to?
Do you really have to return the vapors to the motor on a turbo set up? I have a vented catch can set up that I am going to run. What is the need for a return line to the intake. Can I just run the vented dual inlet catch can that I have or do I have to return it to the intake. Whether it be the inlet of the turbo or a port on the manifold?

I run the stock PCV system with a check valve and catch can in line. Without it the fumes were too much when stopped at a light or in traffic. And then I ran a line from the passenger side valve cover to the turbo inlet to ingest fumes when in boost. Works like a champ.

You can also achieve the same effect but putting. Check valve in your exhaust at a 45degree or smaller angle, and the exhaust rushing past creates a very strong vacuum. I like this set up better because it works better, no oil inside your ic pipes, and (if you have an exhaust that exits the rear of the car) should you burn a hole through a piston the crank case sees what ever boost you were making for a brief moment. That's enough to push a quart of oil or two in to your intake, or out the top of your vented catch can which can go on the ground in front of your tires and put you in the wall. Using the exhaust method will dump the oil out behind the car via the exhaust.

I'm running the RX racing 3 valve catch can setup. Uses vacuum to pull vapors out under normal driving, and then uses the turbo intake to create a vacuum source for when under boost, so you always have suction pulling the fumes out. Seems to be working great so far, and wasn't too hard on the wallet either. A great catch can setup is crucial to a boosted car IMO.

In addition to MM catch can my tuner had to install a breather on the passenger side valve cover. He told me that the lines coming from the the back of the driver side valve cover where blowing off under boost and stated that the motor wanted to breath. He said one of the things he does for his cars is that he welds AN fittings to the valve covers so you can screw on the hose instead of having the hose over the fitting with a clamp as I had. I see now that MM catch cans have these AN fittings which should help. I'll try out the car as is for now and if it keeps blowing of the hoses I'll take the valve cover off and and weld on some AN fittings. I might also have to send my can back to MM to see if he can put some of the new fittings he has now.
