Grounds grounds grounds. Check your grounds. The msd limiter is 5500 irrc. Get rid of the pills,up the limiter, and make your own curve.

Custom curve, ditch the pills and it sounds as mentioned, rev limiter or the ground is not solid.

ok checked my grounds, and had a Nick Cage National Treasure hunt for serial port to usb cable. My new computer has windows 8, wouldnt work. Pulled out the old puter with flickering screen and pow... Houston we have a connection.
Raised the rpm limiter to 7000 and made a custum curve. Now the motor idles better and sounds more responsive, have not did a test run yet. I'll test it out later and let you guys know. So Zones,89 gmc, windmill.. Thank you for your input. Maybe later someone can think of a custom timing and map curve for me. And thank you Mike from S K Speed for awesome price on the 6010. Chevy Dude Out! !!!!

12*@0 rpm (cranking)
18@800 rpm (idle)
29@2500 rpm (cruising)
29@4800 rpm (to keep the curve flat)
27@5000 rpm on out. (Near peak torque also to keep it safer at high rpm)

That will get ya rolling untill you get a chance to fine tune at the track or a dyno. If I had to guess this timing will be close but favoring the low side (cuz I don't want you to take my advise and hurt something) lol

I'd go a little more aggressive. 18 at 0 rpm, all into 33deg by 2000. Tune it from there. I just give a good base line, based upon that cam and compression I am going to think it will like 35* total like mine.

I wonder how high I can take mine lol? 10.48:1 cr 234/250 .628/.621 112+4 with ls3 heads. I made 400 to the wheels thru my th400 on a dyno dynamics dyno and only 29*. It's like 455/460 on a DJ.

33 at least, but I would go to 35 tuning at the track to see if it was happy there. Just look at the mph.

Thanks again guys, the curve i installed last night was very close to yours Zones89rs. I went with 34 total all in by 3500. Jumped on it a couple of times today and it didnt rattle. Feel like trying 35 total, i need to go with 3.73 gears. I have 3.42 with 28" tall bfg street tires and it smokes them. Yet i feel it will hurt my holeshot once i put slicks or drag radials.

Sounds like you got it sorted out. sorry for changing the subject but how do you like the howards asa cam? been looking at this cam. and some beehives for next upgrade. Bone stock 5.3. plan on porting the heads when they are off, maybe mill. also running rpm and 750. prob. going to jr and bigger carb for next year.

I've seen a lot of threads on starter "kickback" breaking the mounting bosses off aluminum blocks, so my curve has 0° until 600 RPM in order to (hopefully) prevent this. Since the starter spins less than 600, it faces no advance, when it fires and goes over 600, there is 20°. It holds 20° across my idle band (600 to 1100) so it won't "hunt", then ramps up to 32° @ 2500.

its ok the aa 12 automatic shotgun issue is resolved rusty. No more popping must have been a bad ground. Far as the howards asa cam, i like it. Even with the 342 gears i t moves pretty good. Also i tried the vic jr first and i could feel the small loss of torque, from idle to 6000. So i switched to the rpm and i like it alot better. Now im after better mpgs, cuz i drive my car at least 4 times a week. Its to damn fun, cant stay out of it.

Thanks chevy dude. Im the same way. I shoved a 5.3 in an old beat s10. Plan was to take it to the track and beat it down. I cant stop driving the damn thing. Thats all i have been driving. I still beat it down in town and at the track. It seems to like it!

hey Rustys10ls start a new thread about the howards Asa cam. Or i can do it, lets see what other people have to say about it. Because i would like to see what gears, stall, carb, etc. Theyre running. What gears you got Rusty?

That's good, just tune away! One members car is a freak at 46* total, so no two engines are the same!
