T56 Rebuild-Need Opinion/Help

Default T56 Rebuild-Need Opinion/Help

Hi All,

I am rebuilding a T56 and the 1st and 2nd shift fork is broke. See photo. What do you guys recommend I do? Put a new 1st and 2nd gear shift for with all new pads in and and call it good? If not, what parts do you recommend I replace. All the gears look good.

Also, the 1st and 2nd gear slid off of the shaft without using a pulley. Is this normal, any future issues with this when i put it back together?

Yeah that would basically be it if you are just looking to repair. But while you are in there I would replace other things as well. like synchros and such. Look at a Tick performance rebuild kit and redo whole thing. Or is there a budget?

I would definitely do the level 2 upgrade while you have it apart. Make sure the engagement teeth on all your gears aren't rounded and that the synchro ring engagement teeth look good. Your gears ride on needle bearings. They should just slide right off. The online service manuals available are your best friend. They detail the inspection process to make sure you don't miss anything that needs replaced.

The 5-6 cluster sliding off may not seem like an issue if you haven't noticed a vibration from it yet. But eventually it shoves the reverse synchro through it's lockring and causes more damage.

i had my 1-2 shift fork cryo'ed while it was apart since they don't make a steel one such as 3-4 .

They have my T-56 right now freshening it up.
