Default New clutch will not disengage

New flywheel, disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, master cylinder, and slave cylinder installed. System is bled and the peddle feels great. No dead space in the peddle. But I can't get it to go in gear unless the engine is turned off. Bled system over and over still have the same problem. Not sure what to do next. Anyone have any experience in solving this problem. If I need shims where do you get them?

Tick Performance sells shims, if you pull it back out I'd check to make sure the disc isn't bent as that can cause the same issue.

I have the same problem with my stage 3 monster clutch, my car has been sitting since February and it has spider webs all over underneath it now. It looks like **** from sitting. It pisses me off, the clutch has 1100 miles on it. It has a new slave, tick master, and yes it is bled properly. I have not had time to fix it but I should soon. I went to the track at Orlando speed world and was only able to make 2 passes on it, and on the 3rd pass tech had to push me back off the track because the car would not go into gear. I had to put it in first gear and start the car and drive home 60 miles like that.. Such bullshit.

Shims are provided due to the amount of variance seen in the stock components. This can come from slave/bearing depth variance, bell-housing variance, crank depth variance, etc...I know some folks will tell you that OE parts aren't that varied but I assure you from experience that they are. At any rate, a shim can help if the issue is in fact relative to appropriate geometry.

I think that 'm just going to purchase an adjustable master cylinder to cure this problem. In the beginning of this ordeal I had the old flywheel resurfaced. When the transmission would not go in gear I figured that they took enough off so that it would not work. I Took it apart and put in a new flywheel. Still the same problem. Shims are less expensive but it looks like it will be a reoccurring problem when ever the clutch is replaced. So I might as well bite the bullet and get an adjustable master cylinder. Plus I don't feel like tearing it apart again. Stroker motor going in next summer so I'll need an aftermarket clutch to hold the additional power anyway.

We offer an adjustable version of the OE master if you are interested. It retails for $175 and is readily available. Let me know if you have any further questions.

The adjustable master cylinder cured the problem. Thanks to Jeremy Auvil at SPEC for his help. I ordered it and he overnighted it to me via UPS. Sure beats the hell out of taking it all apart again and shimming it. Only took an hour to swap out master cylinders.

Wow, very cool man. Glad to see that worked out for you. Hmmm, good to know spec carries an adjustable master for $175. Might be a good alternative to people who need an adjustable master but can't afford the $325 tick unit.

The tick does come with a lifetime warranty though, I'm not too comfortable yet recommending the spec one until I hear some more feed back on it but it seems promising.

I $175 is hardly a life style changing investment. What are going to do let your ride sit in the garage when it is not driveable. Or come out of your pocket with $175 and fix the problem and be riding. Didn't take me long to figure that one out. Just a FYI for ya. I had a stock one last for 13 years and 260,000 miles before I replaced it. Do you have any idea how long it takes to wear out a master cylinder? When you consider how much a new OEM one cost the fact that this one is adjustable makes it a steal at $175.

Don't believe we've spoke, give me a call and we'll go over some things to see if we can get it straightened out as far as adjustment and if it worked before sitting for so long. Chris, 817-750-2000
