Default Newbie questions

Ok these might sound horrible but I have a couple questions. As I am looking through threads to try and learn I am noticing that everyone is running both headers to the turbo. What is the reason for this? Why can't you just run it off of one side and run the other manifold/header the normal way? My second question is what are the stock LS intakes good for on power and torque? I see some people going with aftermarket intakes and was wondering if they really made that much of a difference.

I am looking to build a mainly street driven single turbo on a LQ4 block in the future. It's going to go into a 89 Iroc that I have had since I was 17. Thanks for your help in advance.
