T56 Trans Am Clutch/Master or Slave Cylinder Issue?

Default T56 Trans Am Clutch/Master or Slave Cylinder Issue?

Turned the car on today and my clutch felt like it had no pressure until about 85% to the floor, as the car warmed up it became easier to drive but it was taking a lot of effort to get it into gear at first. Anyone know what it could be?

It could be either or. Check your resv and what color the fluid is for the clutch hydraulics. You can also disconnect the line going into the slave and feel the pedal.

It should be rock hard, rest your foot on the pedal and see if the pedal dives down at all.

Assuming it is rock hard, what would the issue be, then?

A bottomed out slave would cause a stiff pedal because there is no more movement.

One of you two needs to find a different avatar. But anyway, it sounds like there is air in the system. Did you recently change anything with the clutch? I would first try bleeding the clutch.

A rock hard pedal and you say air in the system? You don't understand hydraulics 101. He would have a mushy pedal if there was air in the system. Something keeping the pedal from moving.

I think the rock-hard reference was relative to disconnecting the master from the slave and resting his foot on the pedal. If the Master is working properly, with the line disconnected, the pedal will in fact be very hard.

The easiest thing to do initially is flush and refill the fluid. If there is any air this should remedy the issue. Try it and let us know what you find.

Fresh fluid and bleeding would be were I would start and if that doesn't fix it you can test the master cylinder to try and rule that out before it possibly being the stock clutch itself is not up to the task of holding the increased power as if the slave goes its usually a total failure and is visibly leaking fluid.

Although this thread is a little old, it ties in to my problem as well and one that others may need an answer to. My pedal no longer has any pressure and it does not return from the floor on its own. To test the master, WHERE do you unhook the line running to the slave and HOW? I haven't found a thread that directly addresses that question.
