Default LS Harness Question

I'm fairly new to the LS motors, please bear with me!

So I'm wanting to put a 5.3/4L60E in my '71 K/20. This will be on a fairly tight budget (I'm 15, don't have a ton of money lol), so I was wondering about the harness.

Can I just add the wires I need? Or do I have to remove what is unneeded? Obviously I'll have to get the computer tuned, no big deal. But I'm still trying to cut corners where I can to save a couple bucks.

Also, I figure I might as well ask another question. My truck currently has a VERY mild 350 bolted to a TH350. It's kind of a dog (probably 190hp at the wheels), so how much better would a 5.3 with a cam, headers, and tune be? I've got a number of 400 hp (crank) in my mind....

Thanks!
