Default catback decisions

Have a Flowmaster catback on my car now (no bitching, it was on the car when I got it) but with my car being a vert its just too loud for my liking. I put a powerstick in the I pipe after I got the LT's and ORY to get rid of the rasp, then took off the tips and put 3" turndowns on. Better, but still way too loud for my taste. Thinking of going with either a Hooker or Magnaflow catback. want to hear some opinions, thanks.

You could just put a Magnaflow or Dynomax, Ultra Flo Welded muffler on it. Do you plan on the same muffler configuration on it (1-in,2-out) ?

Now for cat-backs I'd go with the Magnaflow, I like the sound and they're stainless steel.

PM sent.

I vote Magnaflow. Flowmaster isnt very loud either to begin with. It's probably only a tad louder than Magnaflow.

Does anybody sell a muffler that will easily interchange with the flow master I have on there now? That would be ideal.

Wouldn't mind going to 2 1/2" tailpipes either. I think that some of the loudness I have now is due to the 3" tailpipes on the flow master cat back.

I only listed the mufflers with the dual 2.5" outlets in case your current FM muffler
had 2.5" outlets. With your's have 3" outlets I'd go with Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded muffler #17536. It'll be close enough in case size to your FM muffler that all you'll need to do is have the muffler and tail pipe adjusted to get it back where you want it.
BTW, Magnaflow doesn't offer a cross-flow muffler with 3" outlets.

Go with hooker over magnaflow. I was real disappointed with my magnaflow. Other option is borla.

If I go with a new cat back I'm leaning toward the hooker now but going to investigate swapping the muffler only

If you do end up going with a catback go with the Hooker. I have a 00 SS with the Dynomax Ultra Flo catback and my folks have an 02 Z28 with a Hooker catback and the Hooker is definitely quieter than my Dynomax Ultra Flo.

I put SLP LM2 on my convertible. It is bearable, but really hard to hear yourself think at around 2000 rpm. I'm finishing up my LT header install this week. Hope my fiancée doesn't have much to talk about, cuz I definitely won't be able to hear her! lol

SLP DD would go great here. I personally hated the way my Magnaflow sounded. Also, anyone who dumps on a flowmaster catback is an idiot, don't take their advice. While it, and other flowmaster mufflers, aren't the best flowing ones out there, they have their place and they sound good to lots of people.

You can say the same for a lot of different mufflers/cat-back exhaust systems, but just because someone doesn't agree your opinion doesn't make them an idiot. Hell, we're all idiots at one time or another; look at Washington DC right now!
