Default I still need help with clutch fork :(

Can anybody please assist me in trying to work out what clutch fork I will need to mate a TKO 600 to a Ls engine?

I had considered using a RAM hydraulic but having read some issues with a lot of hydraulics throwout bearings some of which are from RAM I really don't like the idea of having to pull the trans out if it leaks.

With this in mind I am looking at using a conventional fork and cable.

Can anybody please help me determine what fork I would need to make this work?

I have an LSX 621 Aluminum bellhousing.

Just get one for a 621 application, like a 72 chevelle BBC. Try ebay or supplier like The Parts Place.
You might want an adjustable pivot ball and longer throwout bearing depending on your clutch/flywheel. Throwout bearing part numbers here.

OK, I've looked up the fork you suggested and found that ok, and the pivot ball is also easy to find but how about the bearing itself?

Is there any way I can work out which one I'd need?

You used a LS1 clutch did you not? I myself am using a LS6 clutch kit which includes the flywheel so I would suggest it should be the same in terms of dimensions as yours.

My Tko600 has a main shaft sleeve of 1.375"

I don't know where to begin to find the right release bearing.

I've used both the LS1 and thicker Sachs 1050 flywheel. The LS6 flywheel/clutch will be the same as the LS1. In order to get good geometry, you'll need the longer throwout bearing, 1 3/4" (PT614037).

One other note, some cars have specific forks set up for that vehicles Z bar, ie C3 corvettes. You didn't mention the vehicle, but might get the fork for that vehicle if it came with a V8/manual trans.

Thanks again Garys68,

I'm building a kit car, the engine is used and the trans new as will all the other parts of the transmission. Like I mentioned I already have an LS6 clutch kit which includes the flywheel.

I'd really like to use a hydraulic throwout bearing and see that the RAM 78125HD is supposed to be the right setup for TKO600 to LS engine.

Only trouble is I hear nothing but bad things about hydraulic throwout bearings but is that because you only ever tend to hear about the bad things?!?

For my install a hydraulic would be better as they'll be very little space around where the fork would project out of the bellhousing plus the added complication of the clutch cable routing.

Fords use a cable, the GM forks are set up for a pushing mechanical Z bar link. External hydraulics can be used on it too. They seem to be less troublesome than the hydraulic throwout bearings.
See link examples here of mechanical links:

Thanks again Garys 68,

You have been extremely helpful

I'm going to stick with a fork and release bearing and I'll get an adjustable pivot ball.

Fingers crossed it'll all work when it arrives

Just an fyi if you want to go with external hydraulics. I know others have changed their mechanical to hydraulic using a slave and master hydraulic cylinder from an 85 chevy pickup. They seem to work well with the earlier fork/bearing. You'll have to fab a bracket for the slave.
Btw, how about some more info on the car, pics?

Should be yes

I am trying to minimize the number of places I can get the parts from to save on shipping costs and I usually buy stuff from Summit Racing as they have always been good to deal with however the bearing on there does not look right
http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...4037/overview/
Is there only one type of this bearing? I wonder if it's just a generic photo.

Summit have the Fork 3892632, the Pilot bearing GM 12557583, the adj. ball pivot My Gasket 3855G.

For the benefit of anybody else who might be reading this trying to find useful information I also came across this site today which gives excellent info on clutch forks and other related parts.

Guessing that's a generic photo. I checked the PN at Rock Auto and it showed 3 with the GM applications they're used on. Might want to check with Summit or Timkins website to confirm specs.
The Novak site in my trans post has the dimensions and an alternative PN.

I checked it again and it does say it's 'for illustrative purposes only' but more annoying than that it's out of stock so I have ordered just that elsewhere.
The one I have ordered looks exactly the same as all the others that come up on Google for that part number.

All the parts are now ordered so hopefully they'll be with me before too long.

Fingers crossed

Thanks again Garys 68 for all your help

Not yet no. The chassis is still being made and won't be ready for another month. But I will start a build thread once I can actually make some progress.
