Default Short in the ALDL port, any suggestions???

I have one in my car, and the shop is having trouble locating it, anyone have some info where it would occur? They are getting nothing from the port.
The ALDL port is the port that is under the drivers side dash that you plug your laptop, scanmaster, hypertech, etc. into. Any help is appreciated.
thanks guys

More likely a blown cigarette lighter fuse.

Well the problem they are having is the power source to the port is bad, as soon as the hook the scanner to it, the fuse pops, they said it is the power source, and that the data wires are good, they have concentrated under the dash mostly, but have 6 hours into it and havent found it yet, HELP!!!

Do you have anything else, like aftermarket electronics,
that might be hung on that same fuse and maybe have
it up against its limits? Try a little fatter fuse?

Does the fuse turn black/cloudy when it blows?

If so, then it's most likely a short to ground. Have them look for a skinned "hot" wire. It's either touching the ground wire or the ground itself. Wires can melt together sometimes very close to the pigtail ( connector ). Makes it really hard to spot.

Just some suggestions...good luck.
