Cel+metal on metal rubbing sound=bad morning
Put in my new alradco radiator last night, took her out for a cruise, all is good.
This morning:
Cel comes on hear a horrid metal on metal rubbing sound. I still have oil pressure. I don't know a whole lot about these motors, haven't read the code yet, but to me it sounds like the crank is hitting the windage tray, but that's just my initial though. I'm gonna see what I can do after work today to figure it out. Any suggestions?

I heard the sound with the motor running and the fans not on. Checked the pulleys and they all clear. Check the harmonic balancer, that's not it.
With the motor idling I can feel a vibration in time with the sound through the oil pan.
Is it possible the windage tray can be loose, or some how out of wack coming in contact with the crank?

Well after a few minutes of looking, I'm gonna guess I managed to smack the sensor some how and broke part of it off in the block maybe. Sucks, I just dropped 1k on headers, and I was so close to doing a cam instead.... Sons of bitches.

Um i just had the cam shaft position sensor code come up a few weeks ago. Changed the sensor and it wasn't it. It was the three bolts that hold the camshaft in. They backed out. Enough so that they were hitting the cover. Not much but enough. Maybe that gives you a direction to go. That was on a 2004v.

Good to know. Kinda suckish I have to pull the whole front of the motor apart... Is there a shot in hell I can do this without pulling the radiator....again. I've already got the sensor on order, for $45 it's to cheap to not do while I'm in there.

****...
Ok, got the timing cover off, cam sprocket was loose, timing dampener was wrecked. Tighten sprocket replace dampener cover plate back on, test fire... Hellacious squeak I can only guess it's from the cam sprocket area. Could it be from the chain rubbing on the dampener?

It is an ls2, it all looks stock and I did take pics. Anything specific your looking for? The cam position sensor was destroyed, and I replaced that, but still noise. I ran it with no water pump on it, no balancer nothing, just to make sure it sounded ok. And I feel like throwing up.
