Default Is it possible to design a cam for boost and mpg?

So over the winter I want to get a custom boost cam for my car. My current turned out to have been specd by some one who doesn't know all that much and just kind of made it up off the top of his head. (non sponsor horriblebshop)

Specs are 232/236 .585/.602 115 +4 on xer lobes.

Since im going to change it out I was wondering if I could get one to work better with my 9.5:1 370 on boost and cruising the highway searching for better mpg.

Although fuel economy isnt a huge concern I thought it would at least make for some good discussion.

Add go with the exhuast duration bigger then the intake for a turbo setup. It will make it spool faster...look at the comp lsr cams

Driving sorry....Exhuast duration smaller then the intake....im running a 227 223 610 115lsa cam. And it makes good power with a slight lope. Made 96whp over a stock 5.3 cam and 50whp over the z06 cam at the same boost

If you aren't so concerned with the fastest possible spool up then a longer exhaust duration will normally help power for a given intake duration without any mpg penalty. I find they spool quick enough and the difference would only be noticed on a manual from low rpm. The LS7 and ZR1 cams make good power and mpg. Going 220-224 @ 050 on intake will pick up good hp over the LS7/ZR1 cams but cost a little in mpg loss - maybe 3%, and about 5% worse than a stock cam.

Overlap will be the killer for mpg, as well as transmission and tuning.

True, but most modern LS cams have no overlap right through to the high 220's @ 050 due to wide lobe centers (esp boost friendly grinds which run from 112-120).

I got 26mpg in a 4000lb sedan with a boosted LS1 with 4L60e auto on a cam that had 222 @ 050 I/ 226 E - manually measured not off dash.

Any cam with intake duration in the 230's plus @ 050 is going to hurt mpgs and bottom end regardless of lobe centers, but will pick up in the mid range and top end obviously.

Run a stock cam. Cheap, good mileage, and does plenty well with boost.
