This is stupid, they're racing at different times of the year. ZL1 was done in the summer and the GT500 obviously Fall. Heat soak was killing the ZL.

Not to mention, the ZL1 was black and the GT500 blue.

Completely irrelevant vid.

Good comparison. You can see where the ZL def has its turning advantage but the GT500 has enough ability to turn that it can run away from it on the the straights.

Looks like they were dead even till the big straight, pretty much what you'd anticipate.

I really like the gt500, but if it's only 1 second faster than the camaro on a 7+ minute track and has 100whp more then I can't help but think that the camaro is one hell of a balanced car

Definitely a balanced car. The Camaro has a definite advantage in the twisties, while the GT500 is clearly faster on straightaways. But the GT500 obviously handles well enough to be competitive even on highly technical tracks like this, which I'm assuming was the point of this thread.

Edit: Watched the whole vid, and it is just amazing to me that two cars priced below $70k would absolutely destroy just about anything made in the entire world prior to ~5 years ago. The speed the ZL1 carries through corners is phenomenal, and the fact that the GT500 is performing the way it is with a solid axle is nuts. Contrary to what people might say when looking through rose-colored lenses, these really are the "good ole days."

This is such a rigged comparison. It's obvious the Gt500 is on racing rubber. There's no way it's close to the ZL in any corner. Ford guys are such fan boys!

a reasonable synopsis. but the zl1 with it's bad heat issues would definitely run better in the fall.

I don't doubt that, but I would also imagine that the various fluid coolers it has do their job better on a fast road course than they do at a drag strip.

Omg, this comparison is ridiculous, its obvious two different cameras were used in the two cars.

On another note: one car has superior suspension and the other has superior power, making for very close performance on such a technical course.

The point of the thread is that so many nutswingers jumped to the "handling" front when comparing these 2 cars because the GT500 raped in the category that they were embarrassed about (straight line), and they would SPECIFICALLY reference "the Ring" as their ammo. Now they see right in front of them that they should reference a different track or competition if they wanna talk out of their ***.

Then the Z28 kicks the ZL1's *** too . If I'm not mistaken, that was the entire point of the Z28.
