Default SES light went on...then off.. The. On and off again all in span of a few months

1997 M6......SES has been coming off and on for the last few months.... I do hear some rattling underneath the front passenger seat... It threw out codes p0140 and p0161.... If my left cat was bad the SES light wouldnt go off and on (multiple times), would it? And if it was the left cat it wouldn't throw out either of the codes mentioned previously, would it? Thanks everyone for any help given

No time to look at the codes right now but a flashing SES light on 99.9% of the time on obd2 cars is a mis-fire code.
