Mine 91 s10 single cab short bed no heat or a c, some weight reduction, 05 lm7 1 5/8 headers, vic jr intake, msd 6010, 750 dual feed vaccum secondary holley, accel super coils, no p/s 2300 -2700 rpm stall from jegs, th350 fully manual valve body unknown rear gear cuz the trucks not done

Weight wise, my 86 TA with a edelbrock cam with 4.30s and a 4000 converter ran 7.7 at 92 with no real tuning. So your truck being much lighter than this 3300+ lb car should do well into the low 8s with no cam.

Thinking a stock 5.3 and a 3300#ish car/truck should be 12.8 or so 1/4 and mid 8's in the 660', geared and stalled with traction.

Just a guess.

I was gonna say the same, but didn't. The BRP 1 3/4 mid lengths are 500$, that's what I'm going with when I find a extended cab for my next project.

Its temporary, I plan on big big turbo next winter, prob making my own headers for that, either 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 for that, this is just a budget year to see what stuff I have to change

Dirt trackers do this around here, seems to work pretty good

I have the same truck as you. same carb, headers, trans without man valve body, 2800 stall, 4:10s welded, 2 1/2 duals to rear axle, with mufflers and then dumped. im running the performer intake. stock 5.3. 160,000 mile junkyard motor. 3000lbs with me in it. Was running 8.38 in the 8th last summer. only got it to the track a couple times so no real tuning. some carb tuning, and better converter and trans, I should be close to 8.00.

Stock for me with brp longtubes. I have a blazer which sits about 1.5 inches higher than the s10's. I just used a heat shield for protection. Starters on these newer engines aren't like the old big sumbitch's on the old SBC engine, lol

Stock with 1-7/8 brp long tubes and its a pain to get in but has good clearance when its in. No shield here and no issues

Long as it works, people do it all the time. If it doesn't, it will be your 15 or 20 buck core for a new one anyway

On the old setup I had with the mid 80's 305, the starter rubbed the frame on mine, that may be where you saw it on an older swap
