IIRC, with the new disc you will likely need a firmware update to the Nav system as well.
And eBay will have them sometimes. I do remember a member here selling them for like $25, but I do not remember the name or even if he is still doing that.

Its kind of stupid how much gm sucks at getting decent electronics, but builds bad *** cars. Ford build boring stuff and has awesome electronics. I thought my 06 V and 07 Silverado would both have blue tooth but noooo, we get onstar.

They have gotten way better in recent years. The Nav system is the 2009+ V is 10x better, but it is still far from what I would call a great system.
But you are right...the GM electronics are still behind the power curve. All you have to do is try and use the CUE system in the newer Cadillacs.
