Default What size of bolt do you use to replace the factory shifter-to-linkage bolt?

I keep reading that you should replace your factory allen head/all thread bolt to a "shouldered" bolt....and I'm going to, but i can't find anywhere online as to what size/length is used to do this!

I'm going to be getting a new shifter very soon, but am doing some other maintenance mods this weekend and would like to try this one out since it's so cheap.

thanks

Best idea is to pull the factory one and go to the hardware store and get the hardware to suit your needs. I don't know where you'd find the diameter and length online.

i have to drive the car...so I can't exactly pull it or i would, lol

and the stock bolt is fully threaded and eats up the bushings, it's a contributor to what makes CTSV shifters suck so damn bad. It's a very cheap/easy mod to replace the bolt, IF you know the size to get...

Stock shifter has a metal collar inside the plastic/nylon bushings, the threaded stock bolt shouldn't eat it up the metal collar... Unless you Hulk your way through the gears.

I just took calipers to a stock shifter I had laying around and it measures .3305" a standard 5/16" bolt with a shoulder fits very snug... you may need to sand or file some, different bolts have varying tolerances. The shouldered area of the bolt needs to be about 1.25-1.5" long.

PM me if you want more info or pictures.

The inside diameter of the metal collar is 8.0 mm. I believe people use an 8mm aircraft shoulder bolt that is 50mm long. The shoulder should be about 38mm long.

The only reason people need to change it out is if they have or are worried about stripping the 5mm Allen in the button head.
