1999 Camaro SS Hugger Orange Custom Hot Rod C5 conversion

This is a true custom IRS build from the ground up.

The body is a documented true SS Camaro in the rare Hugger Orange color. A complete structural tube caged chassis has been fabricated to support the Corvette C5 IRS rear suspension transaxle setup and custom built front strut suspension. The transaxle IRS has a custom fully built manual valve body 4L80E transmission that has billet adapters to convert it from the weak 4L60E unit. The build includes a special Yank 3200 rpm stall lock up billet converter and a rear mounted fan cooled transmission cooler. The transmission is attached thru a custom length torque tube to the engine. The rear suspension is from a 2000 Corvette and has been converted to coil over style shocks.

The body has full rear wheel tubs for large tires (18’X31’) and has a 32 Gallon fuel cell is attached. The inner body has a full sheet metal floor of light gauge steel from the tail light panel to the firewall including the torque tube tunnel. This set up has a unique feature, the rear panel behind the seats and between the wheel tube opens up for easy service to the transaxle and transmission. It also can be left open for or at car shows to show off the custom rear assembly.

The front coil over strut suspension is custom built with aluminum spindles and corvette wheel hubs which allows use of the Camaro SS power steering rack. The power plant is a new aluminum block 5.3L engine with a LS1 cam and an Edelbrock intake topped by a Holley 830 CFM double pumper carb. using an LS-3 Corvete oil pan. GM truck coils are powered by an Edelbrock ignition control box. The exhaust system starts with custom built headers 1 ¾ “ tubes running true dual exhaust with twin catalytic converters and rear mounted mufflers and tips. The exhaust is completely tucked up in the body and tunnel to maximize ground clearance.

The interior has 2 new light weight magnesium framed seats from a GM EV-1 electric car. The console is custom fabricated and topped with gloss black acrylic along with the rear transmission hatch. The dash uses the stock housing with a custom gauge panel as well as an Auto Rod wiring control switch panel. A factory Corvette shifter controls the 4L80E transmission. Factory power windows and locks are retained as well as the T-Tops.
The hood is a hinged and pinned Harwood cowl fiberglass unit that is modified for the carburetor and air intake at the cowl. Stock front fenders and bumper are incorporated to the front end and include Lexan lower air deflectors and dams. A factory corvette C5 radiator cools with an electric fan that can be controlled from the switch panel.

This car has great weight distribution as it has more weight on the rear that front to allow for traction and handling. A new windshield has been installed and retains the original windshield wipers. Power brakes are fitted with a small diameter power vacuum booster. A complete Halon fire system has been installed for safety.

Car is ready for paint and minor interior trim work. Many hours of design and fabrication have gone into this project as well as over $60K but I do not have the extra time to finish it as other projects must be finalized so I can relocate.

This is great one of a kind hot rod project that combines the best of the Camaro and Corvette.

I have a clear Arkansas title in hand. Asking $35,000.00 as is.
