Default New 8.8 build hiltsy mount , racecraft brackets.

Made a little progress on the new 8.8 build .... finally. Explorer 8.8 , explorer axle tubes , narrowed 3.5 each side from stock f body , car is mini tubbed. 31 spline locker and axles. Using explorer disc brakes , 15x10 3.5 bs billet specialties. Car currently has an 8.8 just making a nicer , stronger one using the hiltsy mount.

Mig the bracket together, then I used arc welder with nickle rod to weld the bracket to the housing , pre heating with a torch and post cooling the housing. They sell nickle mig wire but its crazy expensive .

Nice work! I like your shock / spring / LCA brackets. What software package did you use to design them?

I narrowed the long side and I'm using two short side 8.8 explorer axles. I will eventually weld on 9 inch ends and have axles built maybe 35 spline with spool. Maybe going turbo and giving up the nitrous set up.

Great idea, I wish I had thought of that. I could have bought custom wheels for the price of my wheels + axles. Being 31 spline I'm sure the axles will hold up to a lot of abuse.

How wide is yours backing plate to backing plate? I run 15 x 10 3.5 bs wheels tuck a 275 60 15 mt pretty easy room for a 325... I ran same set up last year went 1.5 & 1.6 60 ft on same set up , just liked your mount so much I decided to build a better 8.8 with it.

I'm gonna cry. My 8.8 is 62.75" axle flange to axle flange. I could have used 2 of the long Exploder axles (30.5") for 61.875" axle-to-axle or 2 short Exploder axles for 56.125" axle-to-axle. My mini tubs fit 345 tires with lots of clearance.

Nice 60'. Is your car M6 or auto? Do you run at Cedar Falls?

That sucks , would of saved a few dollars. I have tons of room , I bought narrow offset lower control arms but didn't really need them. Did you have to order custom wheels? My car was a M6 its now th400 4k stall transbrake. Heads, cam, nitrous ls1. Ive always just gone to Eddyville raceway, but would love to try Cederfalls.

I made my own LCAs and moved them inboard about 1 1/2", the 345s tuck in nicely. I used Corvette Spyder 19 x 12 knock-off wheels and they were relatively cheap. I went to Cedar Falls years ago when I had my old Super Gas Firebird. I recall it was a nice track but the shut down was really short for a 9 sec. car LOL.

I like how you did this. I hated the idea of having to cut up my 10 bolt, or getting a donor axle to swap mine. So for about the same money as a donor axle I can use all new bracketry. Seems like 8.8 swaps are getting easier and easier
