Default Borg 171702 a good choice? (S475)

Had a friend chose this turbo based off the compressor map for it, using the factory flow numbers for my junky 862 heads.

It an s475 turbo with a 75 front, and an 88 back with a 1.32ar.

To me that ar seems a bit large for a stock cam only 5.3, with a power goal of 700hp.

What do you guys think?

Cant say im the expert here, but I think youd do better with the smaller 83mm turbine in a T4 housing. Itd def support 700whp+ and would likely spool quite a bit better on the 5.3

I need to stick with a t6. Only want to build this kit once.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. Theres another thread, now Im not seeing it for some reason, but he used that same turbo on a 5.3 and had pretty good results. Id say youd prob be ok with the right cam and converter combo as long as its an auto. T56? Id think Id look into some other turbo options.

S475 with 83mm turbine and 1.10AR in T6... $650 from forced inductions.

The 177101 is a better choice imo. At 700hp you don't need a T6 flange on the exhaust. All you're going to do is hurt transient response with a larger a/r and t6 turbine housing.

Run the 83mm turbine with the T4 and 1.00 housing. At a pressure ratio ~2 (14psi) will get you to your power goals with the 100/75mm compressor wheel. The 88mm T6 1.32 will be a dog, and is way too big for a 5.3. You will not reach the flow limit of a T4 83mm turbine with your setup.

I hear ya, but needs to be a t6. It just cost way too much to build a kit, to turn around and build another one later. I'm building everything big in this car, so later on should I need more I'm just an engine and turbo swap away.

The car is a foxbody with a turbo 400.

Would this work better on a 6.0L? I'm rebuilding the kit on my fox soon and need something bigger than a TC78

That sounds like the best of both worlds, didnt know they made a 83mm turbine in a T6 housing. Id def go that route if you really want to go T6.

I just got off the phone with forced inductions, that's the one I went with. Even in a t6, they said that was a great turbo to use for my goals.
