Default Dealership damaged fenders on my '02 SS

So I took my '02 SS to the Chevrolet dealership for a routine oil change. I Recently relocated, so I'm new to the dealership. I get the car back and the front fenders on BOTH sides are pushed out. Apparently the mechanic jacked the car up on the point where the fender connection meets the frame and it bend under the weight of the car. I'm the second owner of this car, had it since '02 and has under 60k miles on it. Never had any major scratches or dings so I'm understandably pretty erked.

Dealer proposed taking car to a GM certified auto body shop to fix it then giving me a 'service credit' for the value of the oil change ($110) to come back again. I can't help but feel I'm getting short changed here. I feel I should something more given there is at least some depreciation to the value of the car and the value of my time for having to go back and forth to the dealer during my work day.

Any thoughts on this, and experiences in dealing with dealership for their screw ups would be much appreciated.

Its a simple fix but it being a dealers mistake Id milk it for all I could get.

If it was YOUR mistake and brought it to their body shop it would be a hell of a lot more than $110.

I don't understand why anyone would think that those flimsy pieces of metal would be a good place to jack a car up from. Just put it on the damn k member.

I would fix it myself, since I personally feel that I'd do a better job than a common body shop. I've fixed these before, on my own cars, and it's not hard to get it back how it was so long as they didn't crack the plastic tabs off.

This is a common problem when you take these to a shop for service, even a dealer.

Agreed. What is worse, those nimrods didn't even say anything. How could you do that and NOT say anything?? I noticed at as soon as I got the car back. @ BLK 95-Z, i totally agree, just not sure best negotiation tactic. Service manager really trying to put one over on me. I told him i wanted the cost of labor put back on my AMEX and a service credit if he wanted me to come back there. he said i can't have both.

this is a result of ill-informed "tech schools" and such like I attended telling kids to jack or lift cars by their pinchwelds instead of subframes. I had a flat out argument with my teach once because he told me to lift a full-frame caprice by the pinchweld on the body. I sould have done it just to see his face when he walked back in to see a body lifted off the frame haha

You might have to get nasty. Get a couple quotes at reputable body shops in your area and tell the dealer you want a credit. Then fix it yourself. They damaged your car so they should fix it. Period

Good luck

I think the dealership was fair. They fixed the mistake and gave you a free oil change. Yes, they should have been honest about the accident, but they are fixing the damage. And how can an oil change cost $110? I use an additive in my Formula and it only costs me $55 at my Chevy dealership.

I'm a little confused about that part as well. An oil change at my local Chevy dealer is only $19.58 for 5 quarts of conventional (I get the wife's daily driver done there all the time). 5.5 quarts of synthetic would obviously be more expensive, but not nearly 6 times the price.

Sounds like that dealer is a huge rip-off to begin with.

Simple fix, but ridiculous that it happened where you should feel confident that it never would.

Haven't fixed it yet. I am going back on Monday to drop it off at the dealership where they will then take it to third party, 'GM certified' auto body shop. Oil change itself was $80 with tax for full synthetic Mobil 1 and then another $30 to change a tail light bulb...yeah I got my face ripped off on the light bulb change should have done it myself. Think I'm just going to have them fix it and give me a full cash refund for the service and go to a different dealer from now on for routine maintenance.

just remember, they don't put their good/quality techs on the oil change line.

it's very difficult to find a good quality/honest service department this day in age. at the very least, they are paying for the fix, it could be worse, they could deny everything and hang you out to dry!

thats what the courts are for... stupid mechanics that can't tell the difference between the fender tabs and pinch welds! Make their body shop replace the 2 fenders and free monthly wash, wax/ buff for a year! Make sure you say... now my car will no longer be a collectable bc it want have factory fenders etc... make sure you use that pitch!
