Default My 69 Camaro LS swap parts list and issues.

Hey Everyone

I thought I would share this list in the hopes that it helps others in this forum. I had a 69 Camaro with a non-stock 307 and powerglide, both were very worn out. I swapped in a LQ4, I did not even crack open the engine, except for topping it off with a carb, I just left it stock for now.

Below is a parts list for swapping the engine along with a 700r4. I also have notes next to parts that had issues, usually fitment. As for what I spent, Engine and all the parts under that heading; $6000, transmission and parts; $2400. I do not have a carb listed because I already had one so you need to add that to your list.

Engine
2003 LQ4 6.0L engine 112k miles
Holley LS retrofit oil pan – Using stock height motor mounts, pan hit frame. I raised the engine 3/8 inch using a second set of Holley LS swap plates
RPM performer LS1 intake
2010 Camaro water pump
2011 Camaro belt tensioner
Dynotech Headers – Fit great but are touching the transmission bellhousing.
Dynotech exhaust
Holly LS engine swap .5 in forward – needed to move engine forward to clear firewall. 1 inch forward would have been better, small block heater hoses may be able to be used.
Holley LS mount plate HOK-12611HKR – used to raise engine, see above
Energy suspension motor mount – only mount that will fit with the Holley LS swap plates. Normal motor mounts will not work because of an elongated bump on all that I could find.
Edelbrock fuel pump
Fuel filter
Fuel pump relay kit
MSD ignition controller 6010 – I had a problem with the wiring harness, leads to the cam and crank sensors were too short. The harness could reach one or the other but not both at the same time. I soldered in about 3 inches to the cam sensor.
MSD LS1-6 spark plug wires
Dipstick tube
Intake manifold gasket
Valve cover gasket
Fuse block with cover
Battery terminal
Aluminum radiator w/ dual fans – bought off of ebay, problem with inlet/outlet sizes. See splicer sizes below.
Dual fan harness
Hose splicer 1.5 to 1.75 & 1.25 to 1.5
Radiator hose 8814
Radiator hose 9070
Throttle bracket spring kit
Fuel line hose 4 ft
fuel line hose 3 ft
fuel line hose 8ft
Heater hose
Muffler cement
PS resevoir
Power Steering pump
LSx accessory bracket from Kwik performance, worked perfectly.
1/8 in.NPT to 16mmx1.5 male Oil adapt.
200 deg ON, 185 deg OFF switch
6 AN 10 feet hose
6AN 90 deg hose to female x 3
5/8-18 male to 6AN male X 2 – I had to make my own power steering lines to match the modern PS pump to old steering box.
6AN to 16mm x 1.5
1/2 tube flare w/11/16-18 male to 6AN

Transmission
700r4 Transmission w/ torque converter, fill tube, dip stick, TV cable, lockup wiring kit
GM replacement shift cable
Shifter conversion kit
Shift detent
700R4 cooling lines
700r4 crossmember
Flexplate 168 tooth
Driveshaft - shorten and rebuild

Why did you decide to go with a 700r4 insdead of a 4L60-4l80e trans? I dont know the diffrence of them, just curious. Is it because the 700r4 is not computer controlled?

Price was the deciding factor. Yes the 700r4 is not computer controlled, a 4l65e was about $500 more without the computer and a computer costs $700 - 1000. If I had the money I would have went electronic because I would have had more control over shift points and firmness. The 700r4 uses a TV cable for adjusting those but it is diffucult to get correct.

Im doing an LS swap as well on my 68 and also using the fresh 700R that I installed last summer. Did you use the stock 6.0 intake or did you have to replace it with a carb and intake. Im didn't see it on your list?

I used a carb since it was less expensive. From what i have read, the truck manifold will not fit under my hood so I would have needed a new EFI manifold, reprogrammed the computer and modified the wiring harness. Also needed with EFI, more expensive fuel pump and return gas line.

In my list I have the RPM performer LS1 intake and MSD ignition controller 6010 for converting to carb.

I think you will have a difficult time trying to properly connect and adjust the 700r4 TV cable to anything other than a carb. The geometry has to be correct.
