Default 3.23 gears factory for LT1?

I've heard a lot of people talk about having 3.23 gears in their LT1 and some have said their car is stock. According to my research, the LT1s only had the option of 2.73s (RPO code GU2) and the 3.42s (RPO code GU6). The 3.23s had RPO code GU5. So were these 3.23s actually factory on some or was my research right?

Yes, many came with 3.23 gears. It was the most common gear for the automatic cars. Ditto LS1 F body cars. Only ones that came with 3.42 gears are the manual trans cars.

3.23's were an option for LT1's automatics like Ed said. My car came with them.

3.23 was the performance gear ratio option for autos.

93's are the oddballs.

M6 = 3.23 or 2.73 (depends on whether M28 or M29)
A4 = 3.23

AFAIK, no 93 Z28 A4 came with anything other than 3.23s.

When I purchsed my Z new in 95, it came with the station wagon 2.73 gear. The rear was making a noise so I took into the dealer for warranty work, they told me they would just order a new rear rather than taking my apart and checking it since it was under warranty, I had the glove box locked (Lucky) and they called me to ask if I knew by chance the GU code, I said yup, it said GU6, So I got a new rear with 3.42 gear for my auto.

Jerk. If I could have done it all over again, I would have did 3.42s instead of 3.73s in my A4 WS6 I had back in the day

not true some A4 had 2.73's the way you can tell is the shifter would only go down to 2 there was no #1 you could take the little clip out and get it to go in 1 gear the reason for this was noise polluntion law they didn't want you to hole first gear to 50 mph it was to loud so with the 3.23's you could only hold it to about 40.

Like I said, I wasn't sure, I've personally never seen a 2.73 A4 in a 93 Z28. I also have never personally seen a T-top 93, although I know they exist. From what I've read, 17,850 Z28s were made in 93, and 14,428 came with 3.23s. Also, the M6 cars came with either 2.73s or 3.23s. I don't know how many M6 cars were produced, but I'm curious as to how many A4 cars came with 2.73s, it can't be alot.

yeah when i bought my 93 i did a bunch of back ground on then heres so info i found The Camaro paced the Indianapolis 500 in 1993, and 633 replicas were made in addition to the ___ actual pace cars. Actual pace cars came with a special lightbar in the C-pillar. All pace cars and replicas were automatics. Rumor of 1 manual. Most came with T-tops, though there were a few hardtops made. More information is needed on these cars, email me!

Noteworthy Production Options

Quantities are total installed, including package and separate sales

CC1-3,340 Camaros and Z28s came with T-tops

G92- 14,428 automatic Z28s were equipped with a Performance Axle Ratio (which added an engine oil cooler to the car as well)

MM5 or M49- ______ Camaros with 5-speed Borg-Warner manual transmissions need verification on this RPO code

MM6- ______ Z28s with 6-speed Borg-Warner manual transmissions need verification on this RPO code, I think the Tremek one is MN6...

MX0- 31,691 Camaros and Z28s came with automatic transmissions

N96- 34,792 Camaros and Z28s came with 16 x 8 inch aluminum wheels (salad shooters)

Spotter's/Restorer's Guide to 1993 Camaros

All V6 Camaros came with a body colored roof unless they were equipped with T-tops.

All Z28s came with a black roof.

All Camaros and Z28s with T-tops came with a black C-pillar.

Outside mirrors were painted black on all Camaros and Z28s.

All Camaros and Z28s came with flat black door handles and key-lock cylinders.

All Camaros and Z28s came with flat black painted headlight buckets ("raccoon eyes") and grills EXCEPT black Camaros and Z28s which came with black matching the rest of the exterior paint.

All Camaros came with a red Chevy Bowtie on the grill.

All Z28s came with rectangular exhaust tips on the dual exhaust.

1993 was the only year interior instruments had yellow lettering.

Leather seats were not available in 1993.

Convertibles were not available in 1993.

Only two engines were available. The base Camaro came with the 3.4L L32 engine, producing 160 hp and 200 lb/ft of torque. The Z28 Camaro came with the 5.7L LT1 engine, producing 275 hp and 325 lb/ft of torque.

Three transmissions were available. The base Camaro came with a 4-speed automatic (4L60E) or 5-speed manual by Borg-Warner. The Z28 came with a 4-speed automatic (4L60E) or 6-speed manual by Borg-Warner.

I have a t-top '93 Formula, I know it's pretty uncommon for sure. My uncle has a t-top '93 Z28 too. '94 was the exact opposite.

Yeah that's how ALL '93 autos are. It's basically just a 700R4.

True. Only real difference between a 4L60 and a 700R4 is the Corvette servo and the 5 pin connector for lock up. 4L60E added the electronic valve body and the detent cable vs a t.v. cable.
