Default paint bc/cc or mix?

A few years ago I had my Pontiac Sunfire repainted by a family friend, he actually did a very nice job, it was a complete exterior repaint, meaning inside of doors trunk and hood were not(I took care of that myself). Later when he gave me the list of colors that went into the paint, I noticed the clear was mixed in WITH the basecoat. I didn't know that could be done, always thought you shot the basecoat, waited til it flashed, and then shot the clear. Any advantages/disadvantages to doing it this way as opposed to bc/cc? Thanks.

Default

Paint companies put a clear binder in the base mix to hold this together, I bet this is what is listed. Is in all base coats.
