Default battery charger for seasonal use

Anyone have any thoughts about the following product:

CTEK Multi US 7002 12V Battery Charger : Amazon.com : Automotive CTEK Multi US 7002 12V Battery Charger : Amazon.com : Automotive

I'm looking for a safe battery charger, something with a trickle charge to keep the batteries strong during long periods of non-use.

I don't have any first hand experience with this charger but was talking to one of the sales people in a local auto parts store. He told me that that is the charger that all of his associates in the store own and that they have brought quite a few customers batteries back from the dead with this unit.

I've used this one since 2010. I've only used it for a couple of weeks at a time, but it seems to do the job well. And right now, it's only $23.

I had a battery tender trickle charger nearly start a garage fire. Since that issue, I don't trust any unattended chargers while the car is in storage. I fully charge the battery just before storage and then disconnect the power terminals and let it sit all winter in the car. All fine and well for a car that goes through a traditional seasonal storage period, but not as easy for a car that simply sees long periods of no use. The previous owner of a car I bought for my wife many years back was a student in the city and his car would go a month at a time without being driven. He installed a quick disconnect on the positive battery cable and popped that off whenever he parked the car. It was a large plastic thumb screw that took only a few seconds to get on or off without any tools. A racing safety electrical kill switch with the red handle could be installed under the hood as well.

I've used this^^^^ charger for ten months on my motorcycle.

I use this^^^^ one on the V (since March). I try to drive the V at least once a week, but sometimes it sits for 2 to 3 weeks. It is plugged in when I'm not driving it.

My buddy uses the one in the original post in his Cobra R, and his dad uses a few of them for his Ford GT and other very rare classic cars. They use them year round.

Great suggestions! I looked them all up and decided to purchase the one I originally posted. I replaced 3 dead batteries last year so this is definitely needed. I also travel at times which can be a few weeks a pop.

I think a rule of thumb is to fully charge a car battery if it has been dormant for a month. Btw, one of those batteries was for my John Deer.

+1 for the Battery Tender Jr. I use it on my CTS-V and Mark VIII.
