1967 Chevy Impala build
Hi guys,
I just bought my motor. It's in great shape. It is an all-alloy 5.7 litre with a rebuilt bottom end and CNC ported heads. It has a hot cam, high flow intake, fuel rails and oil pump.
It's going inside my 1967 Chevy Impala two door hardtop. The car itself is also in good shape. Most of the body work has been taken care of and the project is progressing at a good pace.
As I just bought the motor I have a few questions.
1) The guy I bought it from says it has a GTO oil pan will that fit inside the engine bay or is it better to go with an after market oil pan like the Holley LS oil pan?
2) He's selling it with a delphi MEFI ECU and harness. Will that ECU also be able to operate the gearbox if I end up buying a 4L60E?
I'm sure I will have a number of different questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Glad to see more B-Bodies joining the LS club!
The GTO pan is a front sump, and it will hit the crossmember. You will need to get a more traditional rear sump pan. The Holley pan is a good choice. It's a little pricey but it's nice and shallow.
As for the harness question...I can't really answer. Someone else will though.

The Delphi MEFI ecm is for marine applications, I believe. It's a rather crude ECM that operates in batch fire and does not have transmission controls. You'd be better off with an LS1-style PCM.

'65-'70 all have the same frame so a lot of the issues I had to overcome will come up in your build as well. If you need any help just let me know

Thanks! But actually the pic in my signature isn't my car...just one I Photoshopped a bit to make it into what I want mine to look like. If you haven't seen it already, see my build thread here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-5-3-swap.html

Thanks. Any suggestions on an affordable ECU for a road going car? I just had a look at the Holley and FAST ones and they are $1500ish...? The engine has actually come out of an off road vehicle that's why the computer is a basic one I guess. He just upgraded to an LS3 and offloaded the LS1 for a good price.

Hi Jono, its hashim, I thought ill reply to your email here to get the forum's opinion since we are both new to this
How much did you get the engine for?
Im going with autokraft pan and dirty dingo sliding engine mounts which gives me all the adjustably i need. For harness and ECM, im going with PSI with a pre tuned ECM. All plug and play to avoid the hastle

Hi Hashim. Thanks for the lead on the PCM and Harness I'll probably end up ordering from them! I bought some adjustable mounts yesterday. I'll see how well they work when they arrive in the mail.
I got the motor for a steal. I'll tell you about it when it arrives at the shop.

Motor mounts arrived in the mail. I bought some off ebay. They are three position ones. I also found a wreckers who will sell me a gearbox, starter motor and a few other parts that I'm missing from the GM family.
I've changed jobs this week and the new position is very close to the garage where the car is located, so I'm sure things will start to progress faster.
