Default Extremely High Voltage Issue

Hi. I have a 1999 LS1 camaro. i Changed the Alternator over the weekend and for a couple days it read alittle over 13v the whole time, but yesterday while driving the volt needle went way into the red, my dash lights and head lights were super bright. Then it would go back down to 13v then jump back up again. Eventually it stayed at 13v rest of the way home. This morning it did it again for just a few seconds. I was told to much voltage is really bad, and when the car does it the needle is pinned all the way. Anyone know what I did wrong? Thanks

if its overcharging sounds like a voltage regulator issue.

The voltage regulator is in the alternator right? So only option is to swap it out again ?

yea its built into the back, it can be replaced as itself usually just easier and cheaper to swap the whole alternator
