Default ~800whp turbo capable clutch

Currently I have a stock t56 with a Monster stage 3 clutch and tick master cylinder, and I'm doing a 5.3 swap and turbo kit. The clutch I have is rated to 700ft/lb but I'm wondering what kind of longevity it'll have once the car starts seeing lots of boost. It's been very good with the cam'd ls1 so far, but I do take the car to the track and I'm not sure what kind of life it'll have with all the extra power. When this one dies, which hopefully wont be for a while what kinds of clutches should I be looking into, a twin setup? At the track this past year I ran slicks dumping the clutch around 5k, and I can only imagine I'd need a serious clutch to launch like that with increased power.

If it gives up, give us a call. If using our 28lb billet flywheel the best bang for the buck would be to resurface it and upgrade to a 11" Pressure Plate/Ceramic Disc. It's been 9.3s in an F-body fwiw, hope that helps. Chris 817-750-2000

I plan on making 800-1000 to the wheels. I have a McLeod RXT with their flywheel. If it doesn't hold they sell a disc upgrade that should do the trick. But at ~800hp the normal RXT should be perfect...

McLeod rates their clutches at the flywheel, where as ours are at the rear wheels. The 800hp rating is for the RST which uses organic discs with the v6 pressure plate, the RXT uses the ceramic discs with the same v6 pressure plate which they rate at 1000hp at the crank. They also do not recommend drag racing with the RST, here's our LT1S in action which uses a higher plate load than the v6 pressure plate and organic discs. We can upgrade the discs to ceramic (LT1SC) that holds 1000rwhp or sintered iron (LT1R) thats good for 1150rwhp, it also has better longevity than any other twin disc as it is the only one to utilize a self adjusting pressure plate to adjust for wear. Hope that helps, Chris

So my Monster Stage 3, rated at 700 hp, is rated at 700 rear wheel HP?

Thats what I picked up based on a few factors. There is a dude here that made a thread not too long ago about the Monster 11" Ceramic clutch and the F-body owner spoke highly of it. I spoke to him via PM and it seemed that is the best clutch for a single before going twin disc...which he switched to and running 8's if I am not mistaken. If he abused his setup like he did and the clutched held up not skipping a beat then my modest driving and occasional drag event should be no problem. Food for thought.

yes the 11" unit is a badass piece. i had great luck out of it for two hard seasons of low 1.3 60's then put it in my daily driver when i upgraded to the twin that i went 8.80s on and was just as good of a unit.

one of my buddies just put down 750rwhp on his 5.3 turbo project and his level 3 monster that has been in the car for 3 years or so and prob 15k+ miles getting beat on a lot.

well, i have had killer success with McLeod for over 12 years now. my car is no flyweight (approx. 3500#'s), and i would approximate a hair over 1000 at the flywheel.

just my 0.02.

good luck with whatever you choose. i gave up on "hp ratings" long ago. ever heard of those 1200 hp capable transmission parts from G force, that is bull fawking $hit!

as well, i also actually put thousands of street miles on my clutch setup, my car is more a street car than race car. i am not knocking anybody else's clutch, but i know what works for me.
