Default New to the CTSV! have questions...

hi, my name is charlie and new owner of a 2006 ctsv

background:
i own/teach at drift school/drift track days called justdrift llc here in los angeles ca. we've been around for more than 10 years. we recently acquired a project drift car - 2006 ctsv for drifting. our sponsors will help us develop the car and some basic parts for it. such us silicone hoses, air intakes, radiator, steering knuckles, better diff etc etc. i know it's been done and it's been beaten around quite a bit. but i think this is an interesting platform, it has the motor that everyone wants to put in a nissan s chassis. i think it's gonna be a fun car once we get everything settled.

of course we need all the help and info we can to shorten the learning curve.

1. how do you disable the tc and abs permanently?
2. i know diff is weak, so we are looking into using a z33 diff/lsd and axles
3. we don't need the fancy electronics so we want to disable those

can someone help guide how to disable it? we're changing the steering wheel anyway so the buttons will go. also what steering wheel hub fits for the ctsv?
thanks in advance!

i assume the TC can be programed out via tuning software otherwise holding the TC button down until it prompts with stability disabled message, there is a few threads regarding putting in an 8.8" diff, other than TC what do you want to turn off? honestly this is a luxury performance sedan not really built to be stripped down and drifted. sad to see but rock and roll with what you got. i would look into poly bushings front to back as well.

we got this thru a trade with one of our drift cars. unfortunately there's no $$$ value to this car if you sell it. since they don't hold much value otherwise i'm all for it. but lucky if we get 10k out of the ctsv. so might as well strip and play with it.

You could probably pull the ABS fuse, which would most likely be in one of the rear fuse boxes. Buckle all seatbelts in the rear in (not necessary but helps me keep them in sight), and then grab the rear seat from underneath and pull it up with decent force. There's 2 fuse boxes underneath the rear seats. Find the ABS there. Maybe even the TC? I doubt it though. That I believe might have to be tuned off or maybe tricked?

The interior on the V's is quite heavy, get rid of some doorpanels, and seats and things will change. I'm not sure if disconnecting the wheel speed sensors would shut out the stability control, but you can tune traction control out using efi live.

I think this is a great project. Something that hasn't been done or at least don't hear about.
The parts that you remove to shave weight can be sold to recoup some of the investment so remove them carefully. Post some pictures of the car as is, then more as the project continues.
Google: Creative Steel. When you get further in this project. Make a phone call to see what they can help with.

thank you for all the input.. i haven't read all the info as i just got back from testing today.

1. we pulled the abs fuse from the main fuse box
- and that disabled tcs and everything without touching the steering wheel
2. steering angle was very nice from the get go
3. solid ls2 power and lotsa torque, drifting isn't problem
4. we were ready for a diff explosion, but didn't happen.
5. we bent a rear toe rod, i can't believe how thin the toe rods are. it should be illegal to put those in a CTS - let alone the V! i can bend it back with a screw driver. actually, we jacked it back up to straighten it out. we didn't bring any parts cause we have none.

all in all... car has really good potential. it needs a diet and a good coilovers. megan racing is going to make them for us. any one selling a beefy version of the toe rods?

thank you all! i hope to stick with this project. but it all depends on the market support for this platform. we were skeptic about the on board electronics on the v. but one fuse took care of it... for now.

if we stick with this, we need to do the following asap:
oil cooler
ps cooler
thicker arms
stronger axles
accu-sump
suspension stuff

i was hoping to test again tomorrow, but i can't find a replacement toe rod locally. even OEM ones for now. anybody have on to sell?

WTF, you get a V to strip down and beat on and it has accessory wheels? The universe is a cruel place. Let me know if you want to trade those for some funds to put towards your suspension upgrades.

lol... i wanted to sell it for 15-17k. you think they're worth that? i haven't done much price research on them. i saw c-list have them between 10-20k depending on mileage and year. can't find one that's about same mileage and year. mine is 06 but if i can unload it at 17k - i'll go pick up a salvage one for cheap and strip that instead. car is fun to drive, couldn't stop driving it. broke that rear toe rod - but that part was gonna break if you hit a speed bump anyway.
