Default Radnom Clutch Pedal Engagement Point. HELP!

For several years my clutch has engaged at random points throughout the clutch pedal stroke (sometimes the pedal is near the floorboard, other times it's almost all the way up). COLD WEATHER makes the problem much worse.

After I noticed the problem, I replaced the OEM master cylinder with one from AutoZone (not the best, I know), and I replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave, etc. with a Monster Stage 2 package.

I'm having the exact same problem with the Monster clutch as I was with the stock clutch...the engagement point on the pedal is all over the place.

No fluid is leaking, as the master reservoir has remained at the same level for several months.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

It's that crappy autozone master. Try replacing it with a tick master cylinder, and make sure you have all the air bled out of it correctly.

What clutch fluid are you using and how is the line from master to slave heat wrapped if you have headers?

SNL - Clutch fluid is DOT 3. I don't have headers, and all factory heat shields are installed properly. Also, the problem happens even when the engine has just been turned on. Thus, I don't suspect it's the fluid boiling (which is what I assume you were wondering about).

Yeah you should be fine with DOT3, but I normally recommend DOT4 though I agree it sounds like your issues is the seals in the master having blow by. You can take loose the quick disconnect line loose and see if the clutch pedal will slowly go down if transferring fluid internally, let us know what you find out?

SNL - Thanks for the DOT4 advice, I'll change fluids next time. What do you mean by "if transferring fluid internally?"

No problem, fluid leaking past the seal.
