Unhappy car acting funny, help

The other day I was running my car sort of hard, and when I was done I noticed it was making a strange noise, sounded like it was from top of motor. It comes and goes....at first I thought it was a collapsed lifter. I checked the driver side pushrods, they are comp cams hardened and all ok. I did not miss a shift or even hit rev limiter.
The car also has been idling VERY high, like 2k. This is also intermittent. Could the noise be related to this? Is there a idle speed motor that could be wacking out? I'm confused...

Anyone? How can I determine if a lifter is collapsed?

I had a lifter collapse in mine last fall. Its a very loud ticking and it had an audible miss. Power was way down. FWIW it did not affect the idle on my car when it happened.

I'm thinking its a broken valve spring. I'm going to check after work.
