Default Was there ever a factory 5.3/4L80e configuration?

This seems like the most relevant area to post this question:

Did GM ever offer a vehicle with the a 4L80e behind a 5.3? I found a take-out that is supposedly a 5.3/4L80e from a wrecked 2005 2500 van. I was always under the understanding that you could get a 4.8 or 6.0 (and dmax or 8.1) in a 2500 van with the 4L80e, but the 5.3 always came with the 4L60e.

The guy is supposed to be getting the VIN off the back of the block so I can verify at my local dealer, but is this even a possible combination? The trans is obviously a 4L80e, but my guess is that the engine is really a 4.8.

I wasn't aware of anything beyond a 6.0 (or big block) with the 4L80E. Do you have the PCM? The factory PCM never lies...

No PCM... its a complete drop out minus the PCM and harness (technically most of it is there, but its cut where it goes to the fuse/relay panel). I know the 4.8 was available for sure, as I've seen several.

The vans are kind of an odd duck. They're the only way you could get a 4L80e behind a 4.8 or Dmax, and 8.1 other than the Avalanche.

Since the block is stamped 4.8/5.3 they might be trying to up-sell you because they think that you'll pay more for the bigger cubes. I'm not sure of other ways to tell the difference but I know that if you have a probe camera you can look in the cylinder and look at the piston flat=4.8, dished=5.3. Pretty sure that only applies to gen3 engines tho, not sure on the gen4s.

I've never seen a 5.3/4l80e combo, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but my bet would be it's a 4.8 and they're trying to pull a fast one on you like was said earlier.

I've seen a 4.3/4l80 setup in a van before. GM had some weird combos in the vans.

Just curious, but is this a typo? Did you mean 5.3? or4.8? Or did you really see a V6 with a 4l80e?

I don't believe that a 5.3L engine was ever used with a 4L80E trans. The 4.8L however was used with a 4L80E in the full size GM vans. The 4.3L v6 was mated to the 4L60e in the vans.

I know this is kind of an old thread, however you could get the 5.3/4L80E in an Express cut-away "workhorse" model.

Also the 4.3 V6 was the base engine with a 4L80E behind it from 1996-2002 in the G2500 and G3500 models with 8 lug wheels.
