Default Map lights dimmer switch

Just curious on the dimmer switch is there a light that is suppose to be there? I have the 2 square map lights and then light around the circle for the sun roof but is there suppose to be a light for the dimmer (white part)? The white starts small on the bottom and then goes fatter. Mine is an 2004 V

You can see it in the middle of this pic, is there a light

I want to say yes. I have to hit the switch for the light to come on sometimes.

Here you go.
Look like you cant replace that light with out modding it. My light work something but I'm thing of replacing it with a 4mm LED.

The light is under the blue light condom.

Here the 12volt light. You can't replace it. I'm going to remove that light and replace it with a 4mm LED. I'm post more about it later today.

How to replace the Dimmer Light.

Parts:
5mm clear White LED NTE300045 $1.63
Resistor $.10

You will need to download a LED Resistor Calc or find one on the internet.

LED calculator:
11.8V Source voltage
4.5V LED voltage
30 diode forward current (mA)
You will need a 270 ohm resistor.

When I did the calculator I got 211 ohm resistor. The high the ohm resistor will make the LED less bright.

Here the part I got.

After removing the old Light. I had two hole to drop the new led in.
I solder the resistor on the positive side of the LED.

I slip the LED into the little hole and solder the back of the board.
Added some tape to the LED and slipped a straw around the LED wire to help hold it (I did not get a picture)

Negative and Positive

Low Dim.

High Dim.

Here a video showing the dimmer working.
