Looking for ultimate drag cam for stock heads, but will compliment future heads?
Im looking for a cam that dominates at the track for stock heads, but will also work as well when I do heads. Im currently running a 224/.581 112. I think a friend of mine might buy it, so I need to decide on a cam really soon. I care somewhat to an extent on what numbers it puts down, but what Im really worried about is what kind of numbers its going to put on my slips. What cam do you suggest? Thanks a lot.

What do you mean by all the way around? My main concern is having a cam thats going to put out the numbers at the track and being able to run it with stock heads, but will also work awesome with worked heads. Im leaning towards LS6 heads, but wont know for sure until the time comes around.

Are emissions an issue? Idle quality etc?
You will likely need two different cams as the cam for stock heads will not be optimized for ported heads and vice versa. I would do the cam for the ported heads personally (If you can get all the flow information, cc's etc for the ported heads you are looking at buying)

Robzilla: I kinda figured, but was seeing if I had a chance.
Chris ARE 360: Emissions are not an issue. There's quite a few things on the car now that arent legal. Idle...I want it to sound mean. My cam now is fairly small, but it sounds pretty good to me. If it could sound "lopier" then Id be even more happy. I dont know exactly what heads I will go with, but I think Im probably going to go with a set of LS6 heads. Dont know what stage or who Im going through. But I definately need to decide on which cam because Im going to need one when I pull mine out.

You're doing it all ***-backwards.
You first need to decide on a set of heads, then select a cam. You'll need to decide if you want to make the most power as a cam-only car, or if you're willing to sacrafice some power for now until you get your heads. You still need to decide ahead of time which heads you're going to use, as the heads flow numbers and characteristics determine the proper cam for your application.

Im considering doing a cam only swap because right now I cant afford heads and another big reason is because a friend of mine wants my cam. I wanna sell it regardless, so Im going to need a cam to put back in so now Im in search of a new cam. One that will do awesome with stock heads, but one that will also work with aftermarkets heads. If it werent for my friend wanting to buy the cam, then I probably wouldnt even change the cam until I had money for both heads and a new cam. If I had the money, Id do heads as well, but I cant right now. A new rear is going to be the next big expense for the car, so heads arent going to be for quite some time. So in actuality, Im looking for a cam thats going to do wonders with stock heads, but will also work great with heads.

01-Z: How long ago did those cams come out and when about did you purchase yours? Just wondering because how do you know that there hasnt been cams produced that put out better numbers that were made after the cams you mentioned? I know you have the fastest cam only car, but what if you were to install a different newer cam and you picked up better numbers? Not doubting your opinion, just saying. Thanks.
