New guy with an Fbody
Just typed up a big intro thread and my mobile app froze. I'll keep this one short.
When I joined last year I had an '83 Silverado that I planned on swapping a 5.3/4l80e into and adding a turbo...but got a good deal on a 2000 silverado that already had a good 5.3 in it. I sold the '83 and started to daily drive the newer truck instead of my usual 400whp Subaru wrx. Once I did that the Subaru became a playtoy...and it wasn't as fun anymore. I decided to part out the wrx and buy a trans am. I found my '98 trans am with 183,000 miles on it for $4300. After many months of returning my wrx to stock and trying to sell it...I'm free as of yesterday. Time to start building my new playtoy.
So far I've only added an SLP lid with smooth bellows, but I plan on pulling everything and swapping for a either a fresh ls1 or an LQ. Trans will be a th400. Rearend selection is still up in the air...but I might have a 9" for it soon. If my deal for the 9" falls through I'm putting an S60 in it. My power added will be nitrous fed through a stinger plate on a super Vic/4150 setup. There's a lot more to it, but I'll save that for a build thread. Time to stop lurking and start building...

It's bad when I had only one post. The time has come to start buying go fast parts and my buddy told me I should get my post count up so people trust me as a buyer...lol. Never thought about it. I've been avoiding the conversion for years. I had the chance to buy my buddy's z28 back in 2012, but decided to stick to my guns on the Subaru. Just kidding I really wanted that car, but my wife said no...now I have her on board with this project.

Here's some more pictures of this thing.
From the night I bought it
Officially mine
and since I'm building a street/strip car, this seemed appropriate. The yellow plates were for my wife's Legacy GT.

Instead of going with a 9" or S60 have you thought about going to a built 8.8 ford? We had one in a 3400lb mustang and it held up fine until 6.0s in a 1/8th, after that we sprayed the motor with a 175 shot out of the gate. It ripped the 4 link bar off, and messed up a bunch of stuff. I think the rear end may have lasted longer if it wasn't for that mishap.

I looked at doing it, but wanted a rear that I could throw in the car and forget about. I already bought an FTI level 4 th400 with trans brake, 3800 stall, Strange S60 with 3.73's and a chrome moly driveshaft. I'm going to pick up my LQ4 next week sometime, so things are finally happening.

Yeah I had to slow it down. I've got the major parts knocked out, now to just get the supporting parts ordered.
I listed my wife's legacy gt last night, now she's looking at G8 GT's while I'm at work. Lol...I just don't trust the Subaru blocks anymore. Too many local guys are blowing them up.

How ironic. My fiance loves G8s. She thinks that my Trans Am looks like a "bug". I bought my subaru wrx, because it was cheap 2200$. Its sad when a set of Weld Rts rims and some tires cost as much as I paid for that car. I've got a buddy with a 2011 Mustang Gt, and I cannot have him beating me in a drag race.

Looks like your off to good start with the Trans Am, have fun with it. I kind of have a soft spot for the WRX's. Ive got a few friends with some pretty extensively modified WRX's. I HATED to wrench on them though, what a pita. F-cars are much easier to mess with. Enjoy the new ride.
