Default Help me decide...408+200shot vs. 370+turbo

I'm leaning more towards the later, the 370 with the turbo. Either way they will both have a forged bottom end with an eagle crank and rods, Mahle coated forged pistons, arp bolts throughout, in a powdercoated 6.0L block with headstuds and cometics head gaskets. Which would you go with the 408 with a 200 shot or the 370 with a turbo. Decisions decisions....

I'd take cubes + spray over the turbo. Iron block 408 is pretty easy to build. There are good spray kits out there and you can work your way up from a 100 shot based upon your wallet and goals. Only a few people are running consistenly well with a turbo and have not incurred major rebuilds.

I'd guess that an Iron block + spray should also be cheaper unless you go through a bottle a week.

I love the sound of a nasty turbo setup, but I agree with Ragtop 99 that the cubes & spray is more consistant.

gotta ask yourself if you have the patience to deal with the tuning and any possible speed bumps. like what has been stated, only so many people have had success going the turbo route. this is not to say that you can't be one of them, so don't let any one post sway you either way. The tried and true method would be the 408/nitrous. Hell you could build a wicked 346-348 and save the weight of the iron block and run the same shot and be pretty close in e.t. with the proper setup. either way sounds like you got a wicked combo coming and i wish you luck!

Thanks for the good input guys, I'm thinking the deciding factor will be how much the shortblocks are going to cost me, I allready have a good idea how much the 408 will cost me just not sure on the 370 yet, have to get with the engine builder and find out. The main reason that the turbo attracts me is the fact that it's more unique and the power is always there without having to fill up bottles. However I think the 408 will have plenty of power there as well off the bottle. Hmmmmm

I would go with the turbo, not many people dive in to that project. I think it would be worth it though. Being able to regulate your boost is the ****!

If your buying a crank for the 370, why not get a 4.00" and have the 382? Personally, I'd build the aluminum block 382 + the 200 shot. Turbo's are cool, but you better have deep pockets. JMO

Well since I'm an A4 I'm hoping for about 450-500rwhp then on a 200 shot probably 600-625rwhp with 700-750ft lbs I'm guessing.

If your car is primarily a track car go with the spray, if its mostly a street car go turbo or S/C.

It's mostly a street car but may be retiring to just a weekend driver. I'm thinking of going with the 382 all bore now (this is the 6.0L block bored .060 over right???) with a custom turbo setup. I'm hoping to market the turbo kit after I build it for considerably less than what's on the market now, hopefully.

What is your rationale? A 408ci NA is still deadly. On the spray it is SICK. So driving around town NA is not a problem. I never go to the track. FI cars are too picky. You can tune for nitrous once and as long as you follow proven rules you should have no problems unless something mechanical fails.

Vince, just curious how much is that 408 from Futral costing you? I tried calling them but couldn't get ahold of them.

Hey Sly have you thought about going with a solid roller setup? I think between the the two setups you are thinking about i would go with big cubes with some spray. While the turbo would be unique, it just seems like the guys running F/I just aren't running as fast as the guys on the juice. Either way though it sure will be a stout setup.

Ya I've thought about that as well (the solid roller setup). Right now I think I have it narrowed down to an all bore 382 with the turbo setup. Things may change tho, only time will tell. Thanks for the input tho, I'm just not a big nitrous fan, I like to have the power ALL the time.

Well if you are considering a turbo set-up you had better be made of money. Heck with the price of the shortblock you will have more money invested in the turbo kit, tunning, gauges, all the little stuff, etc then either of the mentioned shortblocks, just ask a FI guy.

Go 402-408 and some spray! Thats what I'm doing. Good luck!
