Default Welding a 4" V-band flange to a T6 s480 turbine housing...

I have seen pics of people that have done this, which is what gave me the idea... Soo if anyone has actual experience with this, please chime in and make sure im on the right track,,, or am i going to ruin a brand new turbo, lol.
Due to my space constraints, it will be almost impossible to fit a S480 w/ T6 1.32 A/R and a 5" V band exit. I barely have room for the 4" downpipe and wont have room for 5" to 4" transition off the turbine housing either. Im looking to buy a s480 88/96 T6 on a 1.10 A/R that has the 5" V-Band. From all the pics ive seen, it looks like i can cut that 5" flange off and trim down till i reach 4" diameter so i can weld the 4" flange on...
Easy enough, HOWEVER. Are those s480 turbine housings cast iron or cast steel? This of course determines the proper welding procedure to be used. From what i researched, if its cast iron, nickel rod is to be used, and a stainless steel 4" vband flange. It was also said that stainless steel has similar expansion and contraction properties as the cast iron and would be better suited than mild steel. I will have my very experienced welder friend perform this, he will do the proper preheating and cooling down procedures as well.

Tig welds nice, have to use nickel filler rod. I did my turbo setup like this; cut the fat 5" ring off flush, and then use a stainless 4" vband. Weld with both sides of vband clamped together to the turbo hsg.

1" isnt too bad, but its really tight. According to the measurements ive found, the S480 is 11.63" end to end. heres how much room i have to play with:

right on! How has it been holding up so far? Any signs of stress cracking around the welds?

I welded to the housing using a stainless vband and 309 rod if I remember right. Over 100 miles no hints of cracks.
