Default 1 BADAS Z (5.3 BW480 billet 280z build)

Got a wild hair for New Years and ran out and bought this Z. It had a 383 with turbo 400 trans and stock 280 rear. Wasn't feeling the Mystery Machine look so took it off trailer and removed all drive train the first night I got it home. Cut out the back section and started planing on the back half.

The goal is to run 8 seconds and drive it on the street
Build as of now Will be
2002 5.3
80 deka injectors
Micro-squirt
Ls1 intake with stock throttle body
Truck headers
BW480 billet turbo from forced induction
Air to air and meth
Powerglide with transbrake
Tci super street fighter 10"
8.8 rear with 9" ends 31 spline Spool with 3.27 gears
10" weld wheels with 325/50/15 MT drag radial

Mystery machine lol

First weekend on project 5.0 Fred , Big Gary and I narrowed rear and welded on 9" ends and 4 links brackets. Also added frame rails to allow me to bend tubes for 4 link and shocks to mount to.
Couple of picks of frame connectors, 4 link, antiroll bar and wishbone track locator I built

Wishbone track locator

Rear shot

Kinda feelin the new look.

I wanted to do a 6.0, but I already have a 4.8 and 5.3 and I think my precision 7875 turbo would be too small for the 6.0. It will probably be the bottle neck on the 5.3.

The 5.3 is a 2002 and the 4.8 is 2008. I am really considering putting the 4.8 in it. Probably a better match for the turbo and also has gen vi internals.

Do any of you know what exhaust wheel comes on the TC78 ? I think Skinnies ran it on his rx7 and got in the 8's???? Really wanting to get this Z in the 8's. I will use what parts I have for now to work out the bugs, but if these parts don't get me to my goal. It will receive a 6 liter with S480 and air to water intercooler.

that setup should get you in the 8's with no problem, the tc76 is a 7668, at 2600lbs I went 8.9's with only a few passes on the car with that setup(wasn't certified and no license to run that fast so got booted at the time).

Absolutely love this build. That looks like a very clean Z from what I can tell in the pix.

Nice Z, I have been tossing around the idea of building an early Z car. Good to see more turbo LS cars in the area.

I'm around the New Orleans area.
This car will be at cruisin the coast. Should be running 8's by then.
My brother will also have his Stang there also. It's a Jon Kasse big block with nitrous. Should be Holley injection with twin 88s for Cruisin the coast

Like skinnies posted above he used a 7668 you have a bit larger of a turbine so it should support more power. I do believe the 7675s and 7875s have done 900whp on a 370. That is completely out of steam at that point.

The turbo you have has the ability to make that 4.8 scream for mercy lol.

Skinnies and Bowtie. Thanks for the comments I think I will stick the 7875 on the 5.3. See where it takes me and make a decision from there.

Still debating water/meth only
Water/meth and air to air
Or. Air to water.
Any thoughts ?????????

Got the tubs Fabbed up and tacked in, don't want to weld them in just yet because without the tubs It will be easier to weld the cage

That is the plan. Have no mercy on these junk yard engines. On e I get to the point where the engine is failing due to power and not a bad tune. I will at that point build a forged bottom end 6 liter and add a s480 with air to water. But I want to get every bet I can out of the stock ls engine.

Been in brazil for 2 weeks, finally heading home. Time to get back to business on the Z.
Steepss / OSCS. Been following your builds for a while, great work on both cars. Probably you'll fault I'm in this fabrication mess. ;-)
